Fans Rejoice! Akira to remain unbutchered!

I’m sorry if anyone was actually excited about a live action remake of Akira because if you were, I have bad news.

It has been announced that the project is dead and gone.

Akira as a concept is one best left alone, Its very name for me defines anime and the film was so far ahead of its time and far out it would be lost on a Western audience.

Plus I dont know about you guys but the idea of Leonardo DiCaprio stepping into the shoes of Kaneda was just not.. good and the idea of then making it a two parts (considering it only ran for just over 2 hours) wasn’t sitting right with me.

So I’m ok with this development, Any comments?

  1. I am currently dancing a jig that they are not moving forward on this. It started as a a bad idea, and everything I heard about it made it worse. I’m not saying it cannot be done, but they were way off from the start on this one.

  3. Great news! I really thought this was a bad idea.

Although, just a thought on your post. You say that the original film was just over 2 hours so how would you make two films. Akira is actually based on a graphic novel so there is probably enough material to make many films, but let’s not give Hollywood any ideas.
