Half Life: Escape From City 17 – Part One
October 31, 2009
On this weeks episode of The Geek Actually Podcast (episode 58) we discussed this short film by the Purchase Brothers. The film is called ‘Half Life: Escape from City 17 Part 1′ and is, quite frankly, brilliant. I hope they bring us Part 2 soon and I see features in their future. I want to thank listener Popshot for reminding me of this little gem.

Geek Actually Update – Feeds and Metrics
October 28, 2009
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
Hi, David McVay (Host of The Geek Actually Podcast) here, just a quick note about our feeds and metrics. We need your help so I want to ask you a favour. I would like to streamline all the feeds so we can get some accurate metrics on the podcasts. Now I know we changed the feed a few months ago and I promised that was the last feed change, but then we got the whacky idea to start a second show (Platforms) and it has kinda screwed up all of our statistics gathering.
NOTE: If you download your podcasts through the iTunes store, do nothing, it has all been changed there automatically.
Okay, if you are still reading then you a) use a feed reader, other than iTunes, to get your podcasts and b) want to help us out.
We currently have a few feeds running on our site and they all work, however we only track show statistics on two of them, so let’s see if we can streamline this a bit. If you just used the general feed from the geekactually.com (feed://geekactually.com/feed/rss/) front page or you use the podcast feed (http://geekactually.com/feed/podcast/) they both work (and will go on working for the time being) and you have been getting both podcasts okay. However we don’t track the stats on these feeds.
The big favour we would ask of you, could you please change your podcast feeds to:
The Geek Actually Podcast – http://geekactually.com/category/podcast/feed/
The Platforms Podcast – http://geekactually.com/category/platforms/feed/
This change will not only let us track the podcasts better but gives us room to grow, we can add any number of new podcasts and the feeds won’t cross (so to speak).
Last thing, if you use a site to grab your podcasts other than iTunes or geekactually.com and they don’t have the new feed, drop me an email at info@geekactually.com and I will try to get it corrected.

Platforms is a gamers podcast by gamers. The podcast is recorded live on Ustream with chat interaction so come and join the fun as your host candidly discuss the latest in the gaming world. News This Week: ‘Borderlands’ sells out in the US, PS3 out-sells everyone, Assassin’s Creed Black Beta, Transmission Games goes broke and we take a look at the new trailer for ‘Metro 2033′. We also discuss the new releases ‘DJ Hero’ and the new GTA expansions.
Review of the week: It has to be ‘Uncharted 2′ for Playstation 3. Very well reviewed by both Dave and Josh.
Opinion: Josh and Dave discuss game to cinema crossovers in great detail.
This episode carries an explicit tag due to frequent coarse language.

The Great Internet Tech War of 2009: Apple seems to have lost it’s wit and just seemed a little nasty in it’s new ads and Motorola fires at Apple iPhone with it’s new phone, Droid.
Tech News This Week: Windows 7 has finally arrived and with it comes a new retail shop, Psystar releases the software that it uses to mack Hackintoshes and Nokia sues Apple for 10 patent infringements.
Entertainment News This Week: A new ‘Wolfman’ trailer tries to make it hip, Duncan Jones leads a grassroots campaign to get Sam Rockwell nominated for an Oscar, Jackie Earle Haley may be Sinestro in ‘Green Lantern’, Dylan Baker signed for ‘Spider-Man 4′ (maybe we finally meet The Lizard), Neil Blomkamp has secured financing for his next sci-fi film and does a successful trailer mean a successful film (or vice versa)?
Our Feature Reviews: For our feature review today we tackle the new horror film, ‘The Final Destination’ in 3D. This is the 4th film in the ‘Final Destination’ series and it is awful. David also manages to squeeze in a rant about the terrible Greater Union Cinema (Bondi Junction) 3D experience.
This episode carries an explicit tag due to infrequent coarse language.

David McVay is joined by Josh Philpott, Dave Kozicki and our very special guests Charlie and Brad from The Movie Fan House Podcast.
Recorded live on Ustream. Yes, the Movie Fan House boys (Charlie & Brad) are back for another examination of Hollywood trends, this time we look at remakes. Whether it be a reimagining, reboot, re-interpretation or plain old remake, we discuss our feelings on the subject.
We also share our opinions on our top five favourite remakes and why. Thanks go out to Charlie and Brad for joining us via Skype, they are always welcome here at Geek Actually.
Charlie and Brad can be heard weekly on The Movie Fan House Podcast at moviefanhouse.com or on iTunes.
A reminder, this is not a proper episode of the Geek Actually podcast, this is a pretty unstructured conversation that took place after the recording of the proper show. Let us know if you enjoy (or not) the after show in the comments below.
