Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman

There is a very fine line you walk when making a superhero show, it is really easy to slip into camp and silly. Christopher Nolan (“Batman Begins” & “The Dark Knight”) and Jon Favreau (“Iron Man” & “Iron Man 2”) got it right, Joel Schumacher (“Batman Forever” & “Batman & Robin”) did not. When you do superhero TV the problems intensify. Smaller budgets mean corners are cut and in the past studios felt it was just a kid’s thing anyway so they didn’t aim their sights very high.

One thing is always the same, the fans want to see the costume. It is usually one of the first images released and a superhero product can be made or broken by the costume. When the first images of Michael Keaton in his black armoured Batman costume from 1989’s “Batman” came out, there was a collective sigh of relief. Fans had not liked the idea of Michael Keaton as Batman but when the images showed up the fans accepted him because he looked bad ass. On the flip side of this was the first image of Brandon Routh as Superman from 2006’s “Superman Returns”. Fans were outraged by the little short boots and changed colours, this wasn’t their Superman.

Why? Why am I talking about superhero costumes? A few days ago the first image of Adrianne Palicki (click the image above for a full body shot) in her Wonder Woman costume (from David E. Kelley’s new “Wonder Woman” series) was released. I haven’t written about it until now because I was in shock! It has taken me a few days to recover from the cheap looking 80’s style ‘cosplay’ costume they have decided to go with.

Adrianne Palicki looks like she is ready to go to a Halloween party. There is no detail or care in the costume and the shiny vinyl look isn’t working for me. I don’t understand, if they wanted a more restrained look, why they didn’t just use the new comic book costume. I am not a huge fan of the new look comic book costume but I would’ve preferred it to the vinyl, fantasy hooker look that they are giving us. Is there a special crew member on the set whose only job is to apply liberal amounts of talcum powder to her thighs? Come on, that much vinyl, she must squeak when she walks!

This is no offence to Miss Palicki, I don’t know her as an actress but I can’t imagine that I will be able to take her or her character seriously in this new series while wearing that costume.

Just my two cents worth. What do you guys think? Comment below.

you know what though? the top looks good. I didn’t know what you were worried about til i clicked the full body image and then those pants!!!! What the hell? was it wardrobe’s day off when they took that shot? I think a thick dark blue leather pair of pants would fix it all up in one go. Jessica Biel’s outfit in Blade 3 comes to mind as well….. though i’m not really sure why

Looks cheap, plain and simple. I’ve seen more appropriate wonder woman costumes in sex shops!! Are we going for the “wonder woman by day, stripper by night” look? If so, I’m mildly insulted.

  1. I think it is sad that Tori Black in the Wonder Woman XXX porn parody looks more authentic as Wonder Woman than this. Google it, but it isn’t safe for work!
