Hosts: David McVay & Josh Philpott and guest Richard Gray

This week David and Josh are joined by Richard Gray (theReelBits.com) for a review of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”. They also take a look at some entertainment news, including some new images from “The Man of Steel” & “The Dark Knight Rises” that reveal Superman’s costume and the new Catwoman. We also take a look at the trailer for George Lucas’ new production “Red Tails”. All this and we still have time for an all new Lists of Five: Five Great Animal Movies. *Update 31/07/2012 – Film Actually was a split off from the main Geek Actually show and originally maintained numbering continuity with that show. That logic no longer works as the shows have become two unique entities, so we have gone back and re-numbered the Film Actually shows to reflect their true episode number. This show is now officially episode 50 but when you listen to the show you will hear it referred to as episode 142, this is why. Sorry about any confusion or inconvenience.

Film Actually is recorded live every Saturday. Go to geekactually.com/live for the schedule and to watch it

Feedback and what we’ve been watching including the new Irish movie “The Guard” and Richard give us a brief rundown of the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Feature Film Review

‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ directed by Rupert Wyatt and written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver suggested by the novel by Pierre Boulle. It stars James Franco, Frieda Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo and Andy Serkis as Caesar.

Set in modern day San Francisco, the film tells the back story of the classic series of films. A break through drug to combat and cure Alzheimer’s disease is tested on apes and leads to increased intelligence. Caesar is the last of the test subjects is raised in secret but when he is forcefully put into an ape sanctuary, he begins the revolution.

Our Verdict: The complete surprise of the year, highly recommended to all. A must see.

Lists of Five

This week our Lists of Five: Five Great Animal Movies. They might be a cute kitten or apes that rule the planet, animals come in all shapes and sizes in cinema. List five great movies where the animal (or animals) are part of, or all of, the starring cast. Films can be animated or live action.

Just a reminder, because we never like to just make things easy on ourselves, our lists are not necessarily top five lists, they are more or a less a list of film recommendations within the theme of the list.
