Feature Film Review

‘Battleship’ directed by Peter ‘I Want To Be Michael Bay’ Berg and written by Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber and is based on the Hasbro board game. It stars Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgård, Brooklyn Decker and Rihanna.

Based on the classic Hasbro naval combat game, Battleship is the story of an international fleet of ships who come across an alien armada whilst on a Naval war games exercise. An intense battle ensues over sea, land and air. What do the aliens – known as ‘The Regents’ – want? Source: Anonymous on IMDB

Spoiler Section: 00:50:41 – 00:56:47 – Fast forward this bit if you don’t want to hear spoilers.

Our Verdict: A film that makes Michael Bay films look intelligent, didn’t think it was possible? Well here it is. Plot holes so big you can sail a battleship through them (thanks for that Sam *wink*) and acting so wooden that it makes the game it is based on look positively animated. Never boring but, oh so stupid.

Lists of Five

This week our Lists of Five: The Roland Emmerich Honourary List of Five Crap Movies That Go Boom! Roland Emmerich has made an art form out of blowing things up, the films are not always intelligently written or even that well acted but they are just good dang fun. Here are five more like them.
Just a reminder, because we never like to just make things easy on ourselves, our lists are not necessarily top five lists, they are more or a less a list of film recommendations within the theme of the list.
