REVIEW: The Avengers – A Twelve Year Old’s Perspective

After four years of anticipation starting out with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk in 2008, Iron Man 2 in 2010 and in 2011 Marvel Studios brought us Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger.  All of these films to lead up to something that has never been done before, put all of these heroes into one movie. And now it’s finally here, The Avengers featuring Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and the Hulk in one movie!

The main plot of the film is that Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. brings together a team of super humans to help save the earth from Loki and his army.

Alright, let’s get onto what I thought of the film. The first thing I have to say is it was worth the wait. It truly is the best film I have seen in a while, it was great!

It was directed perfectly by Joss Whedon and he was able to focus on everyone and not just on one character, for example Iron Man, and it also has lots of humour. Joss Whedon also created, wrote and directed lots of famous TV shows such as Firefly and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The script was really good too, which was also written by Joss Whedon. The special effects where also amazing, the best looking Hulk by far.

This film also has such a great cast. Robert Downey Jr. was great as alway as Iron Man/Tony Stark. Chris Hemsworth did a great job playing Thor again. Chris Evans also great as Captain America/Steve Rogers, trying to find his place in this future. Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk was the best Bruce Banner by far, I would love to see another Hulk movie with him.

Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow did a great job too and had more to do in The Avengers than in Iron Man 2. Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/ Hawkeye did a good job, this being his first real appearance other then the one little cameo in Thor. Samuel L. Jackson was good as always as Nick Fury and Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson was fantastic as always. Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill was good but I felt she didn’t have enough to do. Finally, Last but not least, Tom Hiddleston as Loki was terrific in this. He’s crazy and evil and he’s just great.

Overall The Avengers is a great fun ride filled with good humour, great action and fantastic character development and come on who doesn’t want to watch lots of heroes fighting together. I recommend watching it.

As movie reviewers it is often easy to forget that films have target demographics and sometimes a film isn’t made for us, it is made for them. My 12 year old son, Nicholas, is a budding geek and huge film lover, so occasionally we get him in to remind us that kids sometimes have a very different take on movies. – David

Nice work there Nick, i do agree with what you have said. This was the best incarnation of Bruce banner and the HULK was FREAKIN awesome!!! Loki was impressive as always, i dont know much about Maria Hill, but yer she didn’t do much. This film has some of the best lines in a movie of this kind, and the best part was they weren’t cheesy. HOORAY for Joss!! Finally some genuine humour, i havent heard a cinema audience laugh out loud like that in a film in a while. Since you are a comic book fan i would guess you loved Bruce Banner telling the avengers his secret!! What a moment, and everything that followed was truly epic. If you happen to read this, i’m not sure anyone does, i have commented on some pages and it doesn’t seem like many people have thier say. But if you do you can tell your dad he got my surname wrong. I am the John that he read the email from on the Avengers show and the one who left the voice message on the 5 year engagement show. My last name is Friswell not Triswell but hey, i don’t really mind as i wrote the email for them i did’nt expect them to read it on air. Anyway keep up the good work on the lego stop motion clips and the trailer blips, i have subscribed to your channel. I laughed out loud at the Warhorse one, and David saying “I’m amazing” on the spiderman clip was very funny.

  1. I do read all comments and sorry I got your surname wrong. Thanks for all the feedback.
