<itunes:summary>Let's get together and geek out! Movie and TV industry analysis, news, reviews and opinion from the geek's perspective. Join David and his co-hosts Josh and Dave as we sit and gab about our great geek passions: movies, TV and the entertainment industry in general. As film geeks, we love our subject and talk passionately about our stuff. Come and have some fun and join us every weekend. Just a warning though, because we speak candidly about our topics (and love to laugh), we approach film reviewing from a "real" point of view, this podcast has to carry an "explicit tag" for bad language. Back episodes and the live feed can be found at our website, geekactually.com. If you are a gamer, make sure you also check out Dave and Josh on their dedicated gamer's show, 'Platforms'.</itunes:summary>

Film Review

This week we review ‘Precious – Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire’ and have mixed feelings. Pablo loves the film and feels that it worthy of the praise that is being dumped on it. Josh and David take a more centre line and feel that it is a movie of amazing moments and performances, but the film is uneven and ultimately flawed. Then we review ‘The Blind Side’, Pablo liked the football moments but wasn’t digging the rest of the film. David and Josh both liked the film and felt that it was a nice, safe and pleasant film that should be a crowd pleaser. Sandra Bullock was a joy to watch but does she really deserve an Oscar? We don’t think so.

This week David, Josh and Dave check our sanity at the door and review Martin Scorsese’s new film ‘Shutter Island’. A shout out to our friends at The Reel Junkies Podcast at weekendronin.com and The Movie Fan House Podcast at moviefanhouse.com.

This Week in Television: Dave K. introduces us all to ‘Archer’, a new animated series about spies that is wrong in every way. It is a fantastically funny show that needs to be seen by everyone. A reboot/continuation of ‘La Femme Nikita’ is on the way to the small screen.

Film News: John Hughes to get a special tribute at the Oscars, strong rumours that the ‘Spider-Man’ reboot will be based on the Ultimate series, the trailer for Woody Harrelson’s new film ‘Defendor’, Morgan Spurlock and Joss Whedon team up for new Comic-Con doco, ‘The Three Musketeers’ to be rebooted…again, the new ‘Toy Story 3′ gives us a little more story, Kevin Costner returns to the director’s chair, the international ‘Wall Street : Money Never Sleeps’ is an improvement but we still don’t really want to see the film and finally, Martin Scorese is going to make a kids film…in 3D!

This Week’s Feature Review: This week we review Martin Scorsese’s new thriller ‘Shutter Island’. After being delayed by 4 months, the film finally hits the screens. Was it worth the wait? A good film that has flaws. It may not be remembered as a Scorsese masterpiece but well worth a watch.

This Week in Television: Dave K. finally gets to run down the changes in the new season of ‘Scrubs’, Neil Gaiman might or might not be writing an episode of ‘Doctor Who’ and we review the new cable show ‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand’. Definitely a pass on this one. It is a ‘300′/’Gladiator’ rip off done on a mediocre TV budget. It fails on almost every level (except the gratuitous nudity).

Film News: New trailer for ‘The Losers’ looks like fun, The ‘Daredevil’ reboot looks like it might be going ahead, ‘The Thing’ prequel has a director and starts casting, the ‘MacGruber’ trailer has a mixed reaction, The ‘Escape from New York’ remake gets fast tracked by New Line Cinema and Christopher Nolan is overseeing a ‘Superman’ reboot.

This Week’s Feature Review: This week we review Chris Columbus’ new family film ‘Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief’. Mixed review on this one with Dave K. enjoying the film, David M. seeing some redeeming things but over all not liking it and Josh not liking it. 10 year olds might get something out of it, but it is no Harry Potter.

This week David, Josh and Dave are joined again by Susan Ryan for our review of ‘The Road’. We want to take a moment to say rest in peace Zelda Rubinstein (Poltergeist), she passed away this week.
News: Disney kills Miramax, the new international (age restricted) trailer for ‘Kick-Ass’, ‘Real Steel’ starts casting, The leaked Super Bowl trailer for ‘The Last Airbender’, ‘Watchmen 2′ could be a possibility, ‘The People vs. George Lucas’ trailer sparks debate, ‘Avatar’ is now officially the most successful film of all time, Gordon Gekko is back in the ‘Wall Street Money Never Sleeps’ teaser trailer, The Oscar and Razzie nominations are out and new international ‘Clash of the Titans’ trailer doesn’t spark excitement.

This Week in Television: The final ‘Dollhouse’ episode has aired and we take a look back on the show and review the last episode to see if it was all worth it.

This Week’s Feature Review: This week we look John Hillcoat’s adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s ‘The Road’ starring Viggo Mortensen. An excellent film that is at times uncomfortable to watch. This is a film that will make you remember it even if you don’t want to.

This week David, Josh and Dave are joined again by Susan Ryan for our review of 'The Road'. We want to take a moment to say rest in peace Zelda Rubinstein (Poltergeist), she passed away this week. A shout out to our friends at The Reel Junkies Podcast at weekendronin.com and The Movie Fan House Podcast at moviefanhouse.com.

News: Disney kills Miramax, the new international (age restricted) trailer for 'Kick-Ass', 'Real Steel' starts casting, The leaked Super Bowl trailer for 'The Last Airbender', 'Watchmen 2' could be a possibility, 'The People vs. George Lucas' trailer sparks debate, 'Avatar' is now officially the most successful film of all time, Gordon Gekko is back in the 'Wall Street Money Never Sleeps' teaser trailer, The Oscar and Razzie nominations are out and new international 'Clash of the Titans' trailer doesn't spark excitement.

This Week in Television: The final 'Dollhouse' episode has aired and we take a look back on the show and review the last episode to see if it was all worth it.

This Week's Feature Review: This week we look John Hillcoat's adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road' starring Viggo Mortensen. An excellent film that is at times uncomfortable to watch. This is a film that will make you remember it even if you don't want to.

This episode carries an explicit tag due to infrequent coarse language.

Sorry to do this to guys but we have cancel the show this week because of extremely hot weather and we are concerned about the equipment. The temperature is predicted to be 40 degrees (celsius) tomorrow (and the studio gets hotter than that!) and the programs we run to make Geek Actually possible are very CPU intensive. The computers get really hot on a normal day so I am predicting big time crashes if we try and do this tomorrow.

The weather breaks on Sunday so Platforms goes ahead as normal and Geek Actually will be back next week.

The Geek Actually Podcast is recorded live on Ustream with chat interaction.

This week David, Josh and Dave dig in deep and pull apart Peter Jackson's latest opus, "The Lovely Bones". A shout out to our friends at The Reel Junkies Podcast at weekendronin.com and The Movie Fan House Podcast at moviefanhouse.com.

News: NBC's Leno Experiment a costly failure, Raimi and Maguire leave 'Spider-Man 4', 'Clash of the Titans' to feature music by Massive Attack and Jackie Earle Haley in talks to play Sinestro in 'Green Lantern'. We also look at the new trailers for 'The A-Team', 'Inception' and 'Kick-Ass'.

This Week in Television: We take a look at Matt Smith as the new Doctor in 'Doctor Who' and review the return of 'Chuck', was it worth saving? We think so.

This Week's Feature Review: Peter Jackson unleashes his long awaited drama 'The Lovely Bones'. For a change of pace, Josh defends the film as Dave Kozicki and David McVay ravage it. Final verdict, wait for DVD.

After the end music stick around for Nicholas 'The Little Geek' McVay's review of 'The Fantastic Mr. Fox'. He also fills us in on his latest animation efforts.

This episode carries an explicit tag due to infrequent coarse language.

This week the Geek Actually team is actually on holiday so David, Josh and Dave decide to make up some news that has no basis in anything factual. After that they have a discussion about their favourite holiday movies which include ‘Miracle on 34th Street’, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ and just for something a little diffeent, ‘Marked for Death’ starring Steven Seagal!

On a serious note, we do want to acknowledge the passing of Brittany Murphy who died of a sudden heart attack at the age of 32. RIP Brittany you will be missed.

A shout out to our friends at The Reel Junkies Podcast at weekendronin.com and The Movie Fan House Podcast at moviefanhouse.com for all of their support this year.

Fake News: (That we just made up) Microsoft buys Apple and releases Windows OSX and Michael Bay to direct ‘Snakes and Ladders’ starring Nicolas Cage, amongst other nonsense.

We wish everyone a very happy holidays and we will see you in two weeks.

The Geek Actually Podcast is recorded live on Ustream with chat interaction.

This week the Geek Actually team is actually on holiday so David, Josh and Dave decide to make up some news that has no basis in anything factual. After that they have a discussion about their favourite holiday movies which include 'Miracle on 34th Street', 'It's a Wonderful Life' and just for something a little diffeent, 'Marked for Death' starring Steven Seagal!

Fake News: (That we just made up) Microsoft buys Apple and releases Windows OSX and Michael Bay to direct 'Snakes and Ladders' starring Nicolas Cage, amongst other nonsense.

We wish everyone a very happy holidays and we will see you in two weeks.

This episode carries an explicit tag due to infrequent coarse language.

This week David, Josh and Dave talk everything James Cameron. We talk about the man, his films, his women and his technology. This leads us into our feature review of ‘Avatar in 3D’. We want to wish all of our listeners (and viewers) a very happy holidays, merry Christmas and a great new year.
News: This week we are examining the Australian Federal Government’s two new discussion papers. The first one is opening up the debate on bringing in an R18+ rating for games. The second is all about the introduction of the Mandatory Internet Filter in 2011. These are important issues, particularly the second one, and needs a lot more discussion.

Feature Reviews: This week we take a look at all things James Cameron. We discuss the life and career of the director of ‘The Terminator’, ‘Terminator 2′, ‘True Lies’, ‘Aliens’, ‘The Abyss’ and ‘Titanic’. This all leads us up to the main review of his latest film (and first in 12 years), ‘Avatar’. This is probably the cinema event of the last few years and possibly the decade. It is a must see in 3D.

News: This week we have just crammed all the news together and it includes ‘Battleship the Movie’ details, Spielberg leaves ‘Harvey’ remake, DC rebooting it’s comic books, Nic Cage has major money problems, a 48 core processor is on the way and a woman was arrested for video taping a couple of minutes of ‘New Moon’.

TV Time: In a continuing look at the current season of US television, this week Dave and David look at ‘Dollhouse’. Joss Whedon’s new sci-fi series that has been axed by Fox before it gets a chance to spread it’s wings.

Feature Reviews: This week we take a look at the career of Steven Soderbergh and review a favourite, ‘Out of Sight’ and a new one ‘The Informant!’. ‘The Infomant!’ is an enjoyable film but not Soberbergh at his best. News: This week we have just crammed all the news together and it includes 'Battleship the Movie' details, Spielberg leaves 'Harvey' remake, DC rebooting it's comic books, Nic Cage has major money problems, a 48 core processor is on the way and a woman was arrested for video taping a couple of minutes of 'New Moon'.

TV Time: In a continuing look at the current season of US television, this week Dave and David look at 'Dollhouse'. Joss Whedon's new sci-fi series that has been axed by Fox before it gets a chance to spread it's wings.

Feature Reviews: This week we take a look at the career of Steven Soderbergh and review a favourite, 'Out of Sight' and a new one 'The Informant!'. 'The Infomant!' is an enjoyable film but not Soberbergh at his best. It is well worth a look. 'Out of Sight' is a must rent DVD.

Stick around after the closing of the show as Nicholas 'The Little Geek' McVay joins David for a child's opinion of 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs'.

This episode carries an explicit tag due to infrequent coarse language.

This week everyone is in town and we thought it would be fun to talk about the Twilight Saga with everyone at once. We threw the usual format out the window as we slowly melted in the very hot studio and just discussed the two movies on the worlds lips at the moment.
We warned you this was coming! The rest of the show is dedicated to Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga for better or worse. A word of warning, there is no spoiler free zone. We spoil from the first sentance out of our mouths.

This week we have a very special guest, Natali Del Conte. Natali is a journalist for CBS and CNet and co-host of The Buzz Out Loud Podcast. Unfortunately, due to the time difference, we had to record Natali earlier in the day and her segment was played back during the show. After a rough start with Ustream not allowing us to stream at our start time, we finally got underway an hour late! Dave Kozicki got mugged last night so he was a little shaken and Josh, well let's just say Josh has felt better. Anyway, this week's show is dedicated to the fine group of guys over at the Reel Junkies podcast which you can find on iTunes or at weekendronin.com. Check out their film podcast, I (David McVay) listen to it every week and they always entertain.

Game News This Week: Gwen Steffani and No Doubt sue Activision and should Australia follow England and open Game Addiction rehab centres? We have a few words to say about that.

Tech News This Week: Bluebeat tries to sell Beatles music online and is issued a cease and desist letter, AT&T sues Verizon for telling the truth in advertising, Second Life is starting a business edition..

Entertainment News This Week: Joss Whedon offers $10000 for Terminator rights and we discuss the new 'Prince of Persia' trailer.

We also throw in a retro review for Halloween of the horror film ‘Dog Soldiers’, rent it now it is lots of fun.

Our Feature Review: For our feature review this week we tackle Terry Gilliam’s new film ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’. Like all of Gilliam’s films, it sparks conversation. Josh and David M. quite liked it, Dave K. is still processing it.
