Geek of the Week!!!!

My friend and regular guest on “Geek, Actually”, Jacob Oberman, sent this through a couple of days ago and I have only just read it, man I wish I saw this earlier I would have mentioned it in the very techcentric 6th episode of the netcast.

Okay, so the Sydney Morning Herald had this article about, Dino Strkljevic, the Uber Geek! He has taken overclocking to new extremes by using Liquid Nitrogen to cool his PC!

Overclocking, for the non-geeks, is when you make the CPU (Central Processing Unit or Processor for the really non-geeks) run faster than it was designed to run. The side effect of overclocking is the chip runs very hot and becomes unstable. So geeks that overclock (mostly gamers, I think it would be fair to say) are always looking for new ways to cool the computer.

What I love about this Dino guy is that he is part of the “Overclocking Community” and they overclock for the sport! They are geeks all around the world who overclock just to see who can have the highest scores on benchmarking programs, what a wonderfully geeky thing to do!

In the geek’s own words, “This is purely a sport; it’s basically like car drag racing – you don’t run a drag racing car on a normal Sydney street.”

Anyway, read the full story on this man, our geek of the week, and overclocking here or at the link above.

Dino Strkljevic, my hat’s off to you.
