I am a huge fan of fantasy and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ is one of my favourite books and I was a huge Dungeons & Dragons player many years ago, so I get kind of excited when a big new fantasy product is heading our way. I am often disappointed. I went to see ‘The Golden Compass’, ‘Eragon’ and ‘Clash of the Titans’ all on their first weekends and was crushed each time. Fantasy is a very hard genre to pull off and I take my hat off to Peter Jackson for what he accomplished with ‘The Rings’ trilogy.
Why am I telling you all this? Simple, I can tell you in three words, Game-of-Thrones! George R. R. Martin’s fantasy epic is coming to the screen, this time via television, actually even better, this time via HBO. ‘Game of Thrones’ is the first book in a planned seven novel saga (four are out so far) called ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’. The plan for the series is to have each season be one of the novels, interesting plan. George R. R. Martin better pull his finger out and finish the books or the series might just catch up to him.
My hope hope is that HBO will use the same creative mojo they employed for ‘Deadwood’ and ‘Rome’ to really give this the screen adaptation it deserves. The series will feature Sean Bean, Iain Glen, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage and Mark Addy. The series producers are D. B. Weiss and David Benioff (writer of ‘Troy’, ‘Brothers’ and ‘The Kite Runner’).
