Our friends over at Sony have made the first image of the new Spider-Man available and you can click the thumbnail to see a great big version. In the picture is Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man looking a little beaten up. This is from the new re-booted, as yet untitled, Spider-Man movie directed by Marc Webb and due for release in 2012.

The movie stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Conners (AKA The Lizard), Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, Sally Field as Aunt May and Denis Leary as George Stacy (Gwen’s father). There are a couple of interesting credits here as well, Julianne Nicholson and Campbell Scott as Mary and Richard Parker – does this mean Peter’s parents are alive in this one or will they be shown in flashback? Also of note, there is no listing for J. Jonah Jameson yet, will he be in this movie?
Director Marc Webb is probably best known for “500 Days of Summer” which was a terrific film and perfectly places him for the teen angst part of this film as the re-boot takes Peter Parker back to high school. My understanding of the film is it is based on the Ultimates version of the Spider-Man storyline.
I am still not sold on the idea of re-booting a film that is still this fresh but Sony seems to think this is the way to go.
What do you think of the new costume and re-boot idea in general? Comment below.
