On this week’s Film Actually (episode 118) we discussed that Samuel L. Jackson (as Nick Fury) is filming cameos for both “Thor” and “Captain America: The First Avenger”. Jackson had said on Jimmy Fallon that Fury has a female sidekick in these cameos and the internet was buzzing with curiosity, “what character is it?”
We speculated on the show that whoever the mystery woman is, she would probably be a character in “The Avengers” and that lead us to thinking that it would be Janet Pym/The Wasp or S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill.
Now Deadline has the scoop, it is Maria Hill and it looks like Cobie Smulders (Robin on “How I Met Your Mother”) is very close to getting the role.
Still no word on whether Janet Pym/The Wasp is in “The Avengers” yet but after seeing the short list for Maria Hill, I want Morena Baccarin (“Firefly” and “V”) to play The Wasp. Considering that she has worked with Joss Whedon before on “Firefly” and “Serenity” I think he should make this happen and cast her. “The Avengers” needs more female cast members and The Wasp is an original member of the team.
