Hosts: David McVay & Josh Philpott
This week Josh and David got the opportunity to see a sneak peek of J.J. Abrams’ new film “Super 8” and share their opinions of what they saw. They also review a pair of franchise movies, “Scream 4” and “Fast Five”, watch and talk about some new trailers including “Iron Sky” and “Real Steel”. Plus, as if that wasn’t enough, they have a brand new Lists of Five, this week: Five Movie Franchises Worth Spending Your Time With. So, sit in a comfy chair, grab a snack and enjoy. Film Actually is the official movie podcast of geekactually.com.
*Update 31/07/2012 – Film Actually was a split off from the main Geek Actually show and originally maintained numbering continuity with that show. That logic no longer works as the shows have become two unique entities, so we have gone back and re-numbered the Film Actually shows to reflect their true episode number. This show is now officially episode 39 but when you listen to the show you will hear it referred to as episode 131, this is why. Sorry about any confusion or inconvenience.
Film Actually is recorded live every Saturday. Go to geekactually.com/live for the schedule and to watch it

Feature Film Review 1
‘Scream 4’ directed by Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson and Ehren Kruger based on characters by Kevin Williamson. It stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Hayden Panettiere, Anna Paquin and Kristen Bell.
Ten years have passed, and Sidney Prescott, who has put herself back together thanks in part to her writing, is visited by the Ghostface Killer. – Source: IMDB
Josh’s Verdict: The tries to be more clever than it is and becomes what the first film was mocking. A poor entry in the franchise and not worth cinema dollars.

Feature Film Review 2
‘Fast Five’ directed by Justin Lin and written by Chris Morgan based on characters created by Gary Scott Thompson. It stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, Sung Kang, Matt Schulze, Gal Gadot and Joaquim de Almeida.
Dominic and his crew find themselves on the wrong side of the law once again as they try to switch lanes between a ruthless drug lord and a relentless federal agent. – Source: IMDB
David’s Verdict: A fun film that breaks the mold of the first film and gets away from street racing and becomes a straight action heist film. If you are an action fan this is not to be missed. Best of the series.

Lists of Five
This week’s Lists of Five: Five Movie Franchises Worth Spending Your Time With. Ever looked at a series of movies and wondered whether it was worth getting into? Maybe the first film is great and the rest are crap and you just wasted your time. David and Josh are going to give you five franchises that are worth your time watching. For sake of argument, they define franchise as a series of films with three or more films.
Just a reminder, because we never like to just make things easy on ourselves, our lists are not necessarily top five lists, they are more or a less a list of film recommendations within the theme of the list.
This episode carries an explicit tag due to infrequent coarse language.

I realized that while I was editing the show, my bad. So sorry. I could say that I was just testing to see if you were listening, but I would be lying :-) it was just a blunder. I’ll issue a correction on the next show.
BTW love the new trailer, you guys rock!
