Well this is a strange one. When I heard about this remake I assumed it was a film version of the Broadway Musical that was based on the original 1984 Kevin Bacon film of the same name. This kind of made sense to me as “Hairspray” (2007) was very successful and it was based on the Broadway Musical that was in turn based on the 1988 non-musical John Waters film.
Well now our friends at Paramount Pictures Australia have made a trailer (which you can see at the bottom) and the poster (click the thumbnail for a hi-res version) available and it seems that it is just a straight remake of the original film, lots of dancing but it is not a musical in the traditional sense of the word.
I actually enjoyed the original “Footloose” back in the day and this film looks pretty much keeps to the same story and situations so it could be a fun ride. I do have to say that I will miss Kevin Bacon and John Lithgow from the original.
“Footloose” (this version) is directed by Craig Brewer and it stars Kenny Wormald, Julianna Hough and Dennis Quaid. It opens across Australia on the 6th of October.
