What The Geeks Have Been Watching
A collection of other things we’ve been watching this week. Josh watched the “Boogeyman” trilogy and Peter Jackson’s “The Frighteners”. David re-watched “The X File: I Want To Believe” and “Burning Man” (see details below).
David’s Mini Review
‘Burning Man’ written and directed by Jonathan Teplitzky and stars Matthew Goode, Bojana Novakovic, Essie Davis, Rachel Griffiths, Kerry Fox, Anthony Hayes and Kate Beehan.
“Burning Man” is the reckless, sexy, funny, moving and ultimately life-affirming story of Tom, a British chef in a Bondi restaurant, who seems to have decided there are no longer any rules he needs to obey. Whatever Tom is up to, his actions seem to be tolerated by those around him. As Tom descends into darkness, fragments of a different story begin to emerge. All the women in his world are trying in their own, very different ways to help put him back together.
Our Verdict: A brilliant Australian drama about loss and mourning. Told in a fragmented form, the film unfolds into a very intimate and tragic love story. Highly recommended and is surely one of the must see films of the year.

Feature Film Review
‘Immortals’ directed by Tarsem Singh and written by Charley & Vlas Parlapanides. It stars Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke, Freida Pinto, Stephen Dorff and John Hurt.
Theseus is a mortal man chosen by Zeus to lead the fight against the ruthless King Hyperion, who is on a rampage across Greece to obtain a weapon that can destroy humanity. Source: IMDB.
Our Verdict: Visually stunning but ultimately empty tale about Greek mythology. Far better than “Clash of the Titans” but not for everyone. A poor script really lets the visuals down.

Just a reminder, because we never like to just make things easy on ourselves, our lists are not necessarily top five lists, they are more or a less a list of film recommendations within the theme of the list.
