What a fantastic surprise the special Oscars episode was. Still bleary-eyed from watching the ceremony the night before, I get to enjoy a ‘hot off the press’ wrap up on the train to work on Tuesday. Good job. Also helped clear up a mystery for me.

Now I know I can be a bit clueless at times but I wasn’t aware Channel 9 was showing the whole thing during the day and so wasn’t aware that the evening telecast would be cut to shreds. Now don’t say ‘duh’. I did wonder how after a 9:40 pm start the telecast could be all over by midnight. I thought maybe it was part of radical Oscar ceremony overhaul. Wrong!

I hate Channel 9. They treat their viewers with such distain. Yes it was great having a real-time telecast but most of us are still only able to watch it in the evening. Not only did they severely truncate the show, they made us wait until bloody Underbelly was finished AND, to add insult to injury, they did that going past the advertised finishing time thing. Grrrrr!

  1. I truly hate commercial television. I feel your pain. I am glad you enjoyed the show. It was fun going in that hot after the awards. We were trying to get Hollie (Fox Entertainment Reporter) on from LA but she was very busy (as you can imagine).

Hollie did end up calling us but we had already upped the show by then. It was a really bad mobile connection too. It was lovely to hear from her and she will be on another show soon.

Look forward to hearing Mirren’s opinion on the show. Next year you might consider wiring her up during the telecast and recording her running commentary. I would think she was a hilarious viewing partner.
