Well it is now official, Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead Trilogy, The Spider-Man Trilogy) has signed to make the Warcraft movie. Blizzard Entertainment released a press release today that confirmed the signing. According to the press release the film will be produced by Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary Pictures. According to Raimi, “At its core, Warcraft is a fantastic, action-packed story, I am thrilled to work with such a dynamite production team to bring this project to the big screen.”

I have to now throw in my two cents worth. I loved the Warcraft games (1, 2 and 3) and if anyone is going to bring it to the screen, Raimi is a good choice. I just feel that it is too late. In effect a big, epic fantasy film about Orcs vs Humans has already been done (Lord of the Rings anyone?) and Warcraft is really just going to be Lord of the Rings without a ring. That being said, I will go and see it when it comes out because I am a big geek and love big fantasy films loaded with huge special effects and I love Sam Raimi.
What are your thoughts on this? Are you eager to see this film or do you think it is a bit of a waste of time?
