Geek Actually Episode 47 – Humanising Lessons

Geek ActuallyDavid McVay is joined by Josh Philpott

Recorded live on Ustream.

In “Great Internet Tech War of 2009” news, Google is developing a new search technology that is code named “caffeine” and is supposed to be a Bing killer… Wasn’t Bing supposed to be the Google killer?

This week we have a special review of a classic film. Natali Del Conte of Buzz out Loud apparently has never seen “Alien”, so Josh and David are helping her out with The Natali Del Conte Retro Review this week and reviewing the classic Ridley Scott sci-fi horror film, “Alien”. Hopefully this will make her want to watch it :-)

Tech News This Week: Microsoft may have to remove Word from sale due to a patent infringement, Facebook acquires FriendFeed, Apple MacBooks may have a design flaw, Australian vehicles may have to have tracking devices installed, and a Florida man blames his cat for downloading child porn.

We want to say farewell to Les Paul who died August 13th, 2009.

Film News This Week: Megan Fox’s public service announcement (funny stuff), Victoria Beckham is taking humanising lessons, Warner Bros./DC Comics might lose rights to Superman, Bryan Singer is remaking Battlestar Galactica (Again?!?!?) and the Barbarella remake is back on.

For our feature reviews we look at the Peter Jackson produced sci-fi film “District 9“. The first feature by director Neill Blomkamp is a masterpiece and David and Josh are very impressed. David declares it as the best film of 2009 so far.

As always this episode carries an explicit tag due to small amounts of bad language.

  1. There was a minor glitch with the feed on this episode, it had a space in the file name that should not have been there, all fixed now. If you find the player on the website is still reporting an error, clear your cache and reload the page, that will fix the problem. Sorry about that.
