Things are looking up for the new X-Men film, ‘X-Men: First Class’. First we learned that Matthew Vaughn (‘Kick-Ass’, ‘Stardust’ and ‘Layer Cake’) was hired to direct the new film, now he has hired ‘Kick-Ass’ writer Jane Goldman to re-write the script. Ms. Goldman is a fantastic writer, who also worked with Vaughn on ‘Stardust’, and she should be able to bring a fresh take to this tired franchise.
Before screenwriting Jane Goldman had worked in the British television industry and wrote books. She has written fiction and non-fiction including the novel ‘Dreamworld’ and the X-Files companion book ‘The X-Files: Book of the Unexplained’. She was also a staff writer for ‘Zero’, a computer game magazine. She has also written several non-fiction books for teens.
Before moving to films she produced a series on British television called ‘The Big Fat Quiz of the Year’ from 2004 – 2009 and appeared as presenter on a documentary series called ‘Jane Goldman Investigates’ from 2003 – 2004.
She is a gifted writer and I look forward to what she does with ‘X-Men: First Class’.
BTW: And just for something a little different, she even modelled bras for the ‘Fantasie Bra’ campaign. Not something you can often say about Hollywood writers :-)
