First Look at Bane from The Dark Knight Rises

This badass image of Tom Hardy as Bane from the new Christopher Nolan Batman film “The Dark Knight Rises” surfaced over the weekend and I just felt we needed to share with you, our loyal readers. Click the image below for a much bigger version.

As usual, it looks like Nolan is going for a real world, possible look to the character rather than the overly cartoony, fantastical version of the comic books. When I heard that Bane was in the new Batman movie, I wondered how they were going to make him realistic and I guess we have part of the answer now.

What do you think of this Bane? Comment below.

Teaser Trailer: The Muppets

This was a great way to launch your film. Imagine, if you will, that you are in a U.S. cinema and you have just sat down to watch “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and a trailer starts to roll that is for a new romantic comedy starring Jason Segel and Amy Adams called “Green with Envy”. The film looks cheesy and corny and is about to out stay its welcome when all of sudden… wait, why don’t you picture all of the above, watch the trailer and then we’ll talk.

International Trailer: The Adventures of Tintin

I know I posted the first teaser of “The Adventures of Tintin” last week but this is the international version that has become available from our friends over at Paramount Australia. So for the sake of completion I thought I’d better share this one too as there are a couple of shots that are new. If you are not a die hard Tintin fan then there probably isn’t much new for you here, but if you are chomping at the bit for this like I am then you want every morsel you can get, I present this new version of the teaser, enjoy.

If you are an iTunes user, please leave a review. Your comments (good or bad) help us improve the show. This show carries an explicit tag due to infrequent coarse language.

Make sure you check out our other fine podcast Geek Actually for all your tech and geek culture needs.

*Update 31/07/2012 – Film Actually was a split off from the main Geek Actually show and originally maintained numbering continuity with that show. That logic no longer works as the shows have become two unique entities, so we have gone back and re-numbered the Film Actually shows to reflect their true episode number. This show is now officially episode 40 but when you listen to the show you will hear it referred to as episode 132, this is why. Sorry about any confusion or inconvenience.

Film Actually is recorded live every Saturday. Go to geekactually.com/live for the schedule and to watch it

Your show notes:

First an apology…

To the filmmakers of “Iron Sky”, David offers a humble correction. Last week David said that the production of “Iron Sky” was Swedish, it is not, it is Finnish. Sorry guys. Find out more about “Iron Sky” at ironsky.net.

What We’ve Been Watching

Josh saw “Your Highness” and David saw “Burke and Hare”.

Feature Film Review

‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ directed by Rob Marshall and written by Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio based on characters by the writers and Stuart Beattie and Jay Wolpert. It stars Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Ian McShane, Penelope Cruz, Kevin McNally, Sam Claflin, Astrid Berges-Frisbey and a special appearance by Keith Richards.

Our Verdict: Director Rob Marshall doesn’t quiet have the same kinetic energy in the action sequences as the original director Gore Verbinski, but his story telling is clearer and the film isn’t as convoluted as the last Pirates film. Overall, not as solid as the first film but a fun Saturday popcorn film that is a fun ride and should be seen.

Lists of Five

This week our Lists of Five: Five Career Defining Performances. Have you ever seen a performance from an actor that just completely changed your mind on that actor? Or has there ever been a performance that completely redefined that actor for you? Or did an actor just create a character that will go down in history.

Just a reminder, because we never like to just make things easy on ourselves, our lists are not necessarily top five lists, they are more or a less a list of film recommendations within the theme of the list.
