Exclusive Interview with “Thor” Stars Jaimie Alexander & Tom Hiddleston

I recently had the pleasure of sitting down for this exclusive interview with two of the stars of the new Marvel Studios film “Thor”. It was an absolute blast to sit and have a chat with Jaimie Alexander who plays the warrior maiden Sif and Tom Hiddleston who plays the treacherous Loki in the movie..

Both actors were very generous with their time and I want to thank them again for chatting with me. A special thank you also goes out to Paramount Pictures Australia for organising the event. So now, without further ado here is the interview:

“Thor” opens nationally on the 21st of April and you can read my review of the film here.

Review: Thor

Marvel Studios had a tough road ahead of them with the character of Thor, a comic book character created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby in 1962, because at its core it is pretty fantastical and campy stuff. Now bear with me, if you aren’t into fantasy or you don’t read comics, you’re going to have to flex your geek muscles here… In the comic, Thor is cast out of heavenly Asgard by his father Odin and sent to Midgard (Earth to you and me) where he won’t get his powers back until he learns compassion and humility. When Thor learns his lessons he is given the mighty hammer Mjolnir and all of his godly powers. Instead of returning to Asgard, Thor stays on Earth and fights alongside the other superheroes as a founding member of the superhero group called The Avengers… Did that hurt? I’m sorry, those geek muscles may not have been worked that hard in awhile, just stretch for a minute.

The story of Thor is not grounded in the pseudo realistic world of “Iron Man”, “Captain America” or “The Incredible Hulk”, Thor is the thunder god from the heavenly realm of Asgard. This wild idea of putting a Norse god on earth as a superhero worked in comic book form but Marvel Productions had to find a way to meld this fantasy based superhero into it’s existing universe of movies. Film Actually Ep036 (128) – Paul

Hosts: David McVay & Josh Philpott

This week after we raid the mailbag we review “Paul”. We also take a look at the week’s entertainment news including “Superman” & “The Hobbit” updates plus trailers for “Priest”, “Cowboys and Aliens”, “The Perfect Host” and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”. All this and a new Lists of Five: Five Films Best Viewed Under The Influence. So grab your Reese’s Pieces and enjoy. Film Actually is the official movie podcast of geekactually.com.

*Update 31/07/2012 – Film Actually was a split off from the main Geek Actually show and originally maintained numbering continuity with that show. That logic no longer works as the shows have become two unique entities, so we have gone back and re-numbered the Film Actually shows to reflect their true episode number. This show is now officially episode 36 but when you listen to the show you will hear it referred to as episode 128, this is why. Sorry about any confusion or inconvenience.

Film Actually is recorded live every Saturday. Go to geekactually.com/live for the schedule and to watch it

Feature Film Review

‘Paul’ directed by Greg Mottola and written by Simon Pegg & Nick Frost. It stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Kristen Wiig, Jason Bateman, John Heder, Joe Lo Truglio and the voice of Seth Rogan.

For the past 60 years, an alien named Paul has been hanging out at a top-secret military base. When he discovers he’s been taken prisoner, the space-traveling smart ass decides to escape the compound and hop on the first vehicle out of town-a rented RV containing Earthlings Graeme Willy and Clive Gollings. Chased by federal agents and the fanatical father of a young woman that they accidentally kidnap, Graeme and Clive hatch a fumbling escape plan to return Paul to his mother ship. And as two nerds struggle to help, one little green man might just take his fellow outcasts from misfits to intergalactic heroes. – Source: Universal Pictures

Our Verdict: A really fun film that is chock full of movie references. Well worth seeing.

The “Thor” World Premiere Streamed Live

Be a part of history and take part in the World Premier of “Thor”, virtually!

Okay this is pretty hot, our good friends over at Paramount Pictures Australia want you to join in on this fantastic event, by going over to http://www.facebook.com/ThorAU and watching the live stream of the World Premier of “Thor” this Sunday (the 17th April) from 5pm. That’s right, the World Premier of “Thor” is right here in Australia and a full two and a half weeks before the Americans get it.

You can be a part of the experience by watching the stars arrive and be interviewed on the red carpet. If you are a comic book geek (and the fact that you are reading this site would indicate that you are!) this is going to be cool.

“Thor” is released in cinemas April 21st.
