M. Night Shyamalan Teams Up With The Smiths

How does he do it? M. Night Shyamalan makes turd after turd, yet he still not only gets big budgets, he gets star power to be in it. According to /Film, he has just closed a deal for his new, yet untitled, sci-fi film starring Will Smith and Jaden Smith.

More details as this unfolds but all I can think is that it may be time for the Smiths to prepare for failure.

Film Actually Ep034 (126) – The Lincoln Lawyer

Hosts: David McVay & Josh Philpott

This week we have a huge mailbag and then we review “The Lincoln Lawyer”. We also take a look at the week’s entertainment news including Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new animated project, the controversy over Natalie Portman’s dancing, the trailer for “The Three Musketeers” and a load of comic book movie news. All this and a new Lists of Five: Five Courtroom Thrillers. So get get into a comfy chair and enjoy. Film Actually is the official movie podcast of geekactually.com.

*Update 31/07/2012 – Film Actually was a split off from the main Geek Actually show and originally maintained numbering continuity with that show. That logic no longer works as the shows have become two unique entities, so we have gone back and re-numbered the Film Actually shows to reflect their true episode number. This show is now officially episode 34 but when you listen to the show you will hear it referred to as episode 126, this is why. Sorry about any confusion or inconvenience.

Film Actually is recorded live every Saturday. Go to geekactually.com/live for the schedule and to watch it

Your show notes:

Feature Film Review

‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ directed by Brad Furman and written by John Romano based on the novel by Michael Connelly. It stars Matthew McConaughey, Ryan Phillippe, William H. Macy, Josh Lucas, John Leguizamo, Marisa Tomei, Frances Fisher, Laurence Mason, Bryan Cranston and Michael Pare.

Mickey Haller is a Los Angeles criminal defense attorney who operates out of the back of his Lincoln sedan. Haller has spent most of his career defending garden-variety criminals, until he lands the case of his career: defending Louis Roulet, a Beverly Hills playboy accused of rape and attempted murder. But what starts out as a seemingly straightforward case quickly turns sour as Mickey starts to uncover the real truth about his client. – Source IMDB (modified by me)

Our Verdict: A great courtroom thriller and highly recommended. A nice throw back to a genre that was popular in the late 80’s and early 90’s.

Lists of Five

This week our Lists of Five: Five Courtroom Thrillers.

Just a reminder, because we never like to just make things easy on ourselves, our lists are not necessarily top five lists, they are more or a less a list of film recommendations within the theme of the list. The full lists can be found on our Facebook page.

This episode carries an explicit tag due to infrequent coarse language.

New Trailer: The Hangover 2

A few weeks ago we got that teaser trailer for “The Hangover 2” that was just the guys walking with all the reviews on screen. Now we have the first full trailer and the film looks pretty funny. It doesn’t stray too far from the first, in fact it looks like exactly the same story just transplanted to Thailand. But the first was a funny film and I could spend another couple of hours with these guys.

Watch 4 minutes of “Green Lantern”

Warner Bros. has made 4 minutes of “Green Lantern” available online for the fans. A 10 minute version of this footage was shown to the fans at CinemaCon and the reaction from the audience was apparently very positive. I guess Warner Bros. now feels confident enough to release this video and they should, it is a solid 4 minute showreel for the film and I am starting to warm up to it.

Check out the footage below or watch it in HD at Apple.

The Little Geek Has a Birthday Coming

It is that time again. Nicholas “The Little Geek” McVay is turning 12 on June 1st and he really wants an iPad. Now I am a poor podcaster and I can’t afford to buy him one on my own. If you would like to help us get The Little Geek an iPad you can donate any amount using the donation link in the sidebar.

We are pausing the “David Storms America Tour” donations for a few weeks while we run this project. I have started this campaign nice and early so we can really try and make this happen.

We are trying to raise enough to get him a 32gig Wi-Fi model because he is into video and audio and that all takes up space.

Everyone who donates will be put on the birthday card.

Thanks guys.

And as a last thought, my birthday is on June 24th so if you want to get me a nice new iPad too that would be nice :-)
