New Trailer: Captain America: The First Avenger

*Post Updated 11th of April – Official trailer from Paramount Pictures Australia to replace the YouTube copy*

Finally, here is the full first trailer for Marvel’s “Captain America: The First Avenger” and it rocks! I have to say that I was originally more excited about “Thor” but over the past few months, “Captain America: The First Avenger” is definitely pulled ahead in the excitement stakes. I love the way they have digitally made Chris Evans puny, I love his costume and I love the tone of the trailer.

Marvel may have a winner with this one. “Captain America: The First Avenger” hits US cinema screens on July 22nd. Watch the trailer below.

Okay, question time: Are you more excited about “Thor” or “Captain America: The First Avenger”? Comment below.

New Redband Trailer: Your Highness

Well, here is the second Red Band trailer for the film that looks like it was written by two fifteen year old boys, “Your Highness”. I am having such a hard time getting excited about this film, I am getting such a bad feeling from it.

It is a shame that this film isn’t scoring well with me because I like everyone involved with it, Danny McBride was awesome in “Tropic Thunder” and “Pineapple Express” and James Franco is a personal favourite at the moment and after “127 Hours” I’d pretty much watch him do anything, except host the Oscars again. I have been a fan of Natalie Portman since she first appeared in “Leon: The Professional” and last, but not least, director David Gordon Green did a great job on “Pineapple Express”. Add to all of this awesome Zooey Deschanel and blatant pointless nudity and swearing and I should be jumping up and down and pre-ordering tickets, but I’m not. This film is a case where all the good bits don’t seem to fit together as a whole for me. The trailers have left me cold, especially the Red Band ones. Continue reading

Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman

There is a very fine line you walk when making a superhero show, it is really easy to slip into camp and silly. Christopher Nolan (“Batman Begins” & “The Dark Knight”) and Jon Favreau (“Iron Man” & “Iron Man 2”) got it right, Joel Schumacher (“Batman Forever” & “Batman & Robin”) did not. When you do superhero TV the problems intensify. Smaller budgets mean corners are cut and in the past studios felt it was just a kid’s thing anyway so they didn’t aim their sights very high.

One thing is always the same, the fans want to see the costume. It is usually one of the first images released and a superhero product can be made or broken by the costume. When the first images of Michael Keaton in his black armoured Batman costume from 1989’s “Batman” came out, there was a collective sigh of relief. Fans had not liked the idea of Michael Keaton as Batman but when the images showed up the fans accepted him because he looked bad ass. On the flip side of this was the first image of Brandon Routh as Superman from 2006’s “Superman Returns”. Fans were outraged by the little short boots and changed colours, this wasn’t their Superman. Game Review: Homefront

What is it with war games? Why do they sell like mad and build up hype with minimal advertising? It kind of sickens me that an average war game’s release will completely over shadow a decent one’s. Most of these war games are short on substance and tend to end within a few hours, yet everyone runs out and grabs them and seems to lie about how good the game is to justify to themselves why they bought into it. So here’s a run down of the latest bit of drivel, Homefront.

Homefront is a first person shooter that has been made around the initially cool and well presented scenario that North and South Korea have united and by 2023, have invaded and occupied America. Apparently the story has been put together by some top CIA analyst based on plausible future events so the presentation of the Korean threat has been quite well done but the real guts of the story is around your character and the shit he ends up in.
