Retro Review: Commando (1985)

The film that made Schwarzenegger an action star! Sure he had starred in “Conan the Barbarian” (1982), “Conan the Destroyer” (1984) and “The Terminator” (1984) before this, but it was “Commando” that allowed him to be the true action hero. In this film, Arnold was just a super commando, not a villainous robot killer or the cartoony barbarian warrior.

Über producer Joel Silver (the “Lethal Weapon” series, the “Die Hard” series, “Predator 1 & 2”) and director Mark L. Lester (“Class of 1984” & “Firestarter”) have put together a very simple premise, bad guys attempt to blackmail ex-commando super soldier John Matrix into into killing a foreign leader or they will kill his daughter. Bad move, as Matrix isn’t one to be bullied and he sets about killing everyone in his path as he tries to get his daughter back. Continue reading

Is Cobie Smulders Nick Fury’s Sidekick Maria Hill?

On this week’s Film Actually (episode 118) we discussed that Samuel L. Jackson (as Nick Fury) is filming cameos for both “Thor” and “Captain America: The First Avenger”. Is General Zod in Superman: The Man of Steel?

In an earlier post we discussed the short list for Lois Lane (read it here) and then we discussed Kristen Stewart’s departure from the the running (read it here) as Lois.

On this weeks Film Actually (episode 118) we discussed another female casting rumour. A new short list showed up on First Showing but they never mentioned what the role was. Alive Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike are on this list and we started to wonder who this mystery character was. We theorised that maybe it was Lana Lang and the film would be an origin story after all. We were wrong. Continue reading

Captain America – New High Resolution images

Months ago, high resolution concept art for Captain America’s suit came out and everyone got really excited. The page with those shots is still hit everyday on this site. Now shots of the suit have been all over the place for weeks now but Bleeding Cool has just put up some really high resolution shots from the film and one, in particular, is a really high resolution shot of Cap’s costume.

Super Bowl TV Spot: Terra Nova

What do you get when you take “Jurassic Park”, the TV series “Dinotopia” and the TV series “Land of the Lost”, squeeze them together and then run the pulp through a food processor and then bake it for 45 minutes at 180?C? Why you get Steven Spielberg’s new TV series “Terra Nova”.

Well that’s what it kind of looks like from this Super Bowl TV spot. I’m not saying that this is a bad thing, just not entirely original. Take a look below and tell me what you think.

Super Bowl Trailer: Transformers 3 – Dark Side of the Moon

Jesus!!! Everyone knows I loved the first “Transformers” and hated the second, didn’t we all? But, holy crap! This little Super Bowl TV spot for the third film in the series is hotness!!! I want to see a full trailer before I get too excited but this is good start.
