Trailer: Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides

Here we go again, the pirates and Johnny Depp are back for another paycheque… sorry I meant another sequel.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ has Captain Jack Sparrow looking for the fountain of youth. It has a new director, Rob Marshall (Chicago) and a new big bad guy in the form of Black Beard (Ian McShane), the pirate that pirates are afraid of.

It all sounds a little worn at the edges and I’m not sure if the world needed another Pirates of the Caribbean film, but here is the first trailer for the new sequel.

Okay, what did you think? Comment below.

Trailer: Thor

A few months ago we saw the Comic Con footage and the Entertainment Tonight footage, today Marvel has released, through Yahoo, the first official trailer for ‘Thor’. I am a little annoyed that it was released the day after we recorded Film Actually but I guess we will talk about it in more detail on next week’s show.

What I will say is that it is a marked improvement over the leaked footage and even though it still looks a little hammy and over the top, it looks like it will be a fun ride. I just wish it hadn’t been post converted to 3D. I will be looking for a cinema with a flat standard version.  ‘Thor’ will be released in May 2011.

Anyway, here it is for your viewing enjoyment. Continue reading

Film Actually Ep020 (112) – Time and Place

Hosts: David McVay & Josh Philpott

Welcome to the Film Actually podcast, your weekly dose of movie geek. Film Actually is the official movie podcast of geekactually.com.

This week David McVay and Josh Philpott are joined by Celine Roberts to review ‘MegaMind’ and give our summary of the first season of ‘The Walking Dead’. We also have a couple of new trailers and a brand new Lists of Five – Five Films That Could Never Be Remade. So sit back, grab a nice cup of something because this is a long one. Enjoy.

*Update 31/07/2012 – Film Actually was a split off from the main Geek Actually show and originally maintained numbering continuity with that show. That logic no longer works as the shows have become two unique entities, so we have gone back and re-numbered the Film Actually shows to reflect their true episode number. This show is now officially episode 20 but when you listen to the show you will hear it referred to as episode 112, this is why. Sorry about any confusion or inconvenience.

Film Actually is recorded live every Saturday. Go to geekactually.com/live for the schedule and to watch it

Geek Actually After Show Ep111 – Google Earth Sex

Hosted by: David McVay & Josh Philpott

Welcome to the Geek Actually After Show. This week on the un-stuctured, no rules, geeky after show podcast that we call Geek Actually we have trees in Google Earth, the latest Kinect hacks, geeky Christmas decorations, fake murder scenes, QWERTY waffles and a breakfast that will make you drunk. That is what what you get when you get a few geeks together after we finish recording the two main shows, Tech Actually and Film Actually. We run through DeltaKnight’s geekiest links of the week. Basically we leave the microphones on and record whatever we feel like talking about. This show gives us a chance to talk about those things that didn’t fit into the format of the main shows. It’s all in good geeky fun – Think of it as your ‘Week in Geek’.

The Geek Actually After Show is recorded live on Saturdays around 2.30 to 3pm (AEST UTC+10) depending on how long the main shows go. Go to geekactually.com/live to watch it live.
