Film Actually Ep010 (102) – Obvious Metaphors

Hosts: David McVay, Josh Philpott & Brandon McClelland

Welcome to the Film Actually podcast, your weekly dose of movie geek. Film Actually is the official movie podcast of geekactually.com.

This week David McVay and Josh Philpott are joined Brandon McLelland for a review of Oliver Stone’s, ‘Wall Street Money Never Sleeps’. We also have some Entertainment Buzz including the new easer trailer for ‘True Grit’ and a new List of Five, the five best Michael Doulas performances (not including Wall Street). You can find Brandon on Twitter @brandonicism

*Update 14/10/2011 – Film Actually was a split off from the main Geek Actually show and originally maintained numbering continuity with that show. That logic no longer works as the shows have become two unique entities, so we have gone back and re-numbered the Film Actually shows to reflect their true episode number. This show is now officially episode 10 but when you listen to the show you will hear it referred to as episode 102, this is why. Sorry about any confusion or inconvenience.

Film Actually is recorded live every Saturday at approximately 1.15pm (AEST UTC +10) at geekactually.com/live

Trailer: The Troll Hunter

I have to say that the Norwegians are fast becoming genre legends, first with ‘Dead Snow’ last year and now with ‘The Troll Hunter’. My first reaction when I heard obout this was, “really? Do we really need another ‘Cloverfield’/’Blair Witch’ style mock documentary?” Then I watched the trailer and I am jazzed about this one. The premise is simple, what if fairytale trolls were actually real creatures and you have a group of people going out to look for them. Let the fun begin!

I don’t know when Australia will get this film but count me in, I’ll be first in line.

Okay, what did you think? That was pretty cool. Comment Below.

What if Mark Zuckerberg had made his own version of The Social Network?

This was put up over at Babelgum and it shows us what would’ve happened if Mark Zuckerberg had made the film ‘The Social Network’ himself. It is pretty amusing.

Joaquin Phoenix Returns to The Late Show with David Letterman

Just in case you missed The Late Show on the 22nd of September, here is the Joaquin Phoenix interview about his new film ‘I’m Still Here’ and his strange last appearance on the show. In case you have not been paying attention to all the media about Joaquin and the film, it was all an act and he didn’t really meltdown. Enjoy.

Short Film: BLADE RUNNER revisited >3.6 gigapixels

It’s been awhile since we visited the short/fan film category and Jacob Oberman just sent this through to my Facebook page, so it felt right that we post this film.

This is françois vautier’s ‘BLADE RUNNER revisited >3.6 gigapixels’ and what a piece of work it is. According to Vimeo, the film’s home:

An experimental film in tribute to Ridley Scott’s legendary film “Blade Runner” (1982). This film was made as a unique picture with a resolution of 60.000 x 60.000 pixels (3.6 gigapixels). It was made with 167,819 frames from ‘Blade Runner’. Continue reading
