Game Review – Metroid: Other M.

Metroid Other M Box Art

Metroid: Other M

Wow, Nintendo have an exciting line up over the next few months. Donkey Kong Country Returns has a release date, 007 Goldeneye’s re-make/re-imagining/re-whatever is soon to follow and Nintendo’s 3DS is also just around the corner. These are interesting times for a Nintendo fan. We have already had a new Mario Galaxy and now we get Samus’ soul-bearing new adventure Metroid : Other M.

The Metroid series is one that I personally hold dear. It has spanned over every Nintendo platform, barring N64 and is one of the longest standing franchises in gaming history. It has even spanned genres, starting as a side scrolling shooter, to adding exploration, then they jumped to 1st person shooters and a pinball game, hell, Samus even appears in the Smash Bros fighting games. All these games brought high critical acclaim but only a small cult following of fans can be found. It’s almost unfair for such an illustrious series. Continue reading

Geek Actually After Show Ep099 – Spennytoon

Hosted by: David McVay, Josh Philpott, Josh Spencer & Celine Roberts

Welcome to the Geek Actually After Show. This un-stuctured and un-planned podcast is what what you get after we finish recording the two main shows Tech Actually and Film Actually. We basically just leave the mics on and record whatever we feel like talking about. This show gives us a chance to talk about anything that didn’t fit into the format of the main shows.

This week we are joined by the very talented Josh Spencer who has created our new cover art. We talk to him about what it is like to be a artist and cartoonist, we discuss his background and what his inspiration was for our caricatures. We also talk about comic book art in general with Celine and Josh. To find more of Josh Spencer’s work go to http://attackninja.blogspot.com/ Continue reading

Film Actually Ep 007 (099) – Like Some Kind of Stalker

Hosts: David McVay, Josh Philpott & Celine Roberts (with Josh Spencer)

Welcome to the Film Actually podcast, your weekly dose of movie geek. Film Actually is the official movie podcast of geekactually.com.

This week David McVay and Josh Philpott are joined Celine Roberts for a review of the British black satire ‘Four Lions’. We also have a little film news and a new List of Five. Cartoonist Josh Spencer was sitting in as audience but he got on mic a few times too. Finally, to finish off the show, David gives a micro review of the new Australian film ‘Tomorrow When the War Began’.

*Update 14/10/2011 – Film Actually was a split off from the main Geek Actually show and originally maintained numbering continuity with that show. That logic no longer works as the shows have become two unique entities, so we have gone back and re-numbered the Film Actually shows to reflect their true episode number. This show is now officially episode 7 but when you listen to the show you will hear it referred to as episode 99, this is why. Sorry about any confusion or inconvenience.

Film Actually is recorded live every Saturday at approximately 1.15pm (AEST UTC +10) at geekactually.com/live
