Film Actually Ep006 (098) – B00bies!

Hosts: David McVay, Josh Philpott, Calum Wilson Austin and Shane Gregory

Welcome to the Film Actually podcast, your weekly dose of movie geek. Film Actually is the official movie podcast of geekactually.com.

This week David McVay and Josh Philpott are joined Calum Wilson Austin and Shane Gregory for a review of ‘Piranha 3D’. We also have footage from ‘The Walking Dead’, an 8 year olds take on ‘The Expendables’ and a new List of Five.

*Update 14/10/2011 – Film Actually was a split off from the main Geek Actually show and originally maintained numbering continuity with that show. That logic no longer works as the shows have become two unique entities, so we have gone back and re-numbered the Film Actually shows to reflect their true episode number. This show is now officially episode 6 but when you listen to the show you will hear it referred to as episode 98, this is why. Sorry about any confusion or inconvenience.

Film Actually is recorded live every Saturday at approximately 1.15pm (AEST UTC +10) at geekactually.com/live

High Quality Version of The Walking Dead Comic-Con Footage

Finally, a decent quality version of the Comic-Con footage from ‘The Walking Dead’. For those that don’t know, this is the new TV series by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Mist). It is an adaptation of the comic book of the same name. It will start airing on TV in the States on Halloween. We posted the pirate copy of this a few weeks ago so now you can enjoy it in better quality.

For Love Of The Game Episode 2 – Making Enemies Out Of Friends

My all time favourite video game industry story starts with the 2 major video game heavyweights of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, Sega and Nintendo. Sega, back in the day when they actually made consoles, were quite a gutsy and ambitious bunch. They were the first to bring an 8-bit console to the home market (Master System), the first to the 16-bit war (Megadrive/Genesis) but their major accolade was that they were the first to incorporate CDs as a game storage platform. James Cameron’s 3D Camera Rig – Film & Tech Converge for a Minor Geekgasm

This is sweet! James Cameron showed off his tech, the Cameron-Pace 3D Camera Rig, on G4TV’s ‘Attack of the Show’. This is the same camera rig that he used to shoot ‘Avatar’. I am not a huge fan of ‘Attack of the Show’ but I love movie tech and this just tickled that little geek inside me. Watch and enjoy.

Filled with Whedon-y Goodness

Could you be a Whedonite? It can be hard to tell but if you’ve ever watched an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer or become inexplicably obsessed with Nathan Fillion you have already succumbed. You might not even have heard of the writing, directing and producing extravaganza that is Joss Whedon. But you’ve almost certainly seen one of his projects. How about the original Toy Story? Or Speed?

Joss Whedon is coming to Sydney on August 29th to give a talk about his career and his love of popular culture. The world at large will pay little attention, but within certain circles this will be a rather large event. It will cause geeks and nerds to take to the streets and rejoice, and I will be among them. You should be as excited as we are, and here’s why: Continue reading
