This is absolute gold, College Humor has just posted this video of an 8 year old explaining what The Expendables is about. Just watch and enjoy. This is even funnier if you listen to the chaos that was our review of the film in episode 97 of Film Actually. This kid did a better job than us. Continue reading

Tech Actually Ep097 – Grace
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
Hosts: David McVay & Josh Philpott
This is the official tech podcast of geekactually.com. The tech show by geeks for geeks and non-geeks. Accessible tech for everyone is the motto we live by. This week on Tech Actually we discuss the Australian Federal Election and how this affects the geeks, we have a webcamgate update, robots are given emotions and we talk about our experiences of pulling the iMac apart.
Now, if you are new to Geek Actually you are probably wondering why this episode of Tech Actually is numbered 97. No, we are not insane, Tech Actually and Film Actually (our movie podcast) used to be one show called The Geek Actually Podcast and this week we split them into two shows. We kept the numbering continuity across all three of our shows (this includes Geek Actually After Show). All the information on the re-structuring of the shows can be found here at geekactually.com.
Tech Actually is recorded live on Saturdays at 12pm (AEST UTC+10). Go to geekactually.com/live to watch it live.

Film Actually Ep005 (097) – It Must Be a Boy Thing
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
Hosts: David McVay, Josh Philpott & Celine Roberts
Welcome to the Film Actually podcast, your weekly dose of movie geek. Film Actually is the official movie podcast of geekactually.com. This week David McVay and Josh Philpott are joined by our good friend Celine Roberts for two feature file reviews. First up we take a look at the geekfest that is ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. The World’ and then we take a testosterone fueled journey into Sylvester Stallone’s with ‘The Expendables’. We also have new trailers and a new List of Five.
*Update 14/10/2011 – Film Actually was a split off from the main Geek Actually show and originally maintained numbering continuity with that show. That logic no longer works as the shows have become two unique entities, so we have gone back and re-numbered the Film Actually shows to reflect their true episode number. This show is now officially episode 5 but when you listen to the show you will hear it referred to as episode 97, this is why. Sorry about any confusion or inconvenience.
Film Actually is recorded live every Saturday at approximately 1.15pm (AEST UTC +10) at geekactually.com/live

Trailer: Black Swan
Darren Aronofsky is always an interesting director to watch, but when I heard he was doing a film about ballet, my mind went to a dark place. Aronofsky doing ballet!?!? Okay, it might be about a faded ballet dancer who is forced deal with the reality that she can never dance again. This might work for Mickey Rourke and ‘The Wrestler’ but I just couldn’t see this as a compelling dance film.
Then I started getting really dark, maybe Aronofsky had sold out and was just doing a straight dance film like ‘Step Up’ or something, good lord no!!! Continue reading

For Love of the Game Episode 1 – Press Start
Have you ever stopped to think about how amazing the whole “gamer” thing has gone from being shunned 10 years ago to being such an everyday hobby? I remember being called a nerd, dork, or a freak just because I enjoy playing video games when I was in high school. Now, if you bring up that you are a gamer at a BBQ or a birthday get together and everyone seems to want to compare achievements and accolades like they’re badges of honour.
It used to be such a rare thing to find another gamer and you instantly became friends, regardless of creed or game style preference. I was exclusively a nintendo player when I was a kid but one of my closest mates was a Sega fan. We became friends because we were gamers. Nowadays, we seem to fight amongst ourselves. “What?! You don’t like Modern Warfare 2 ???? What the hell is wrong with you?? It’s the BEST GAME EVER!!!!” Or even if you do like Modern Warfare 2, “oh, you play it on PS3?? You’re a wanker!”. Have we really become that segregated? Continue reading
