Game Review: Lego Harry Potter

I defy any adult who says the Lego games are no fun! Sure they are essentially made for kids but dang-gummit they are platforming excellence! And multiplayer to boot. Even Mario has only done simultaneous multiplayer ONCE, Lego has been doing it since day dot! And there are so many themes of Lego games. Lego Star Wars was brilliant, Lego Indiana Jones was cool (especially the 2nd one) , hell even Lego Batman had it’s moments. So when the makers, TT Games revealed their next title was based on Harry Potter, everyone got excited.

Now, let me point out, first of all, I am no Harry Potter fan. I only saw 3 of the movies and don’t even remember them that well. Fantasy has never really been my cup of tea. On an upside, it means I am looking at this game objectively and not being swayed by the whole HP theme since I know very little indeed. Continue reading

Has Apple Plugged It’s Leaks?

I have been wondering how so many Apple products geek leaked now days. If you go back a few years, Apple was a tight ship and we didn’t know what they had for us until Steve Jobs took to a keynote stage and announced it. Lately, there have been no secrets. We have pretty much known all about most of the new stuff from Apple well in advance of an announcement.

Just this year, we knew all about the iPhone 4 well before launch. What was interesting about the iPhone 4 was the video. Even if Gizmodo hadn’t bought the lost/stolen iPhone 4 and published the photos, there was a video from Vietnam on YouTube a few weeks later that showed the phone very clearly. How did they get one?

Well, now Global Supply Manager, Paul Shin Divine, has been accused of supplying Asian suppliers with confidential Apple information. It is alleged he received at least US$1 million in kick-backs for the information. Was this the source for all the Apple information? I guess time will tell.

I won’t go into all the details of the case as better reporters have already done that and you can read their wonderful words about the Paul Divine case here and here, What I will say is that I hope this does seal up Apple a little. I for one like watching a Stevenote and getting a thrill out of the the new stuff. I haven’t been surprised or even that thrilled by an Apple announcement for a while now and I want that back. Just my thoughts on this, what do you guys think? Comment below.

Trailer: Wes Craven’s My Soul To Take

I love always loved Wes Craven’s films. From his early work like a ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ to his later work like ‘Scream’ and the under rated ‘Red Eye’. So when I find a new trailer for a film that I was unaware of I get a little excited. This film, ‘My Soul To Take’, looks a little like it is part ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’, part ‘Friday the 13th’ and add a dash of “My Bloody Valentine’. I gotta say, I’m interested. The plot (from /Film) is:

In the sleepy town of Riverton, legend tells of a serial killer who swore he would return to murder the seven children born the night he died. Now, 16 years later, people are disappearing again. Has the psychopath been reincarnated as one of the seven teens, or did he survive the night he was left for dead? Only one of the kids knows the answer. Adam “Bug” Heller was supposed to die on the bloody night his father went insane. Unaware of his dad’s terrifying crimes, he has been plagued by nightmares since he was a baby. But if Bug hopes to save his friends from the monster that’s returned, he must face an evil that won’t rest… until it finishes the job it began the day he was born.

No Shows This Week – 14th August 2010

Really sorry to do this on such short notice but there will be no Geek Actually broadcasts or podcasts this week due to a massive technical error. One of our main production machines had a complete hard drive failure yesterday and we just won’t be up and running in time. We did consider just hot wiring another machine together to just get a show out but then it wouldn’t be the best that we can be.

So I talked to Josh today and we have decided to spend the weekend trying to get everything back to as normal as it can be and resume next week.

Once again, I apologies for the inconvenience and we will be back on the air next week as normal.

Geek Actually After Show Ep096 – Bieber in 3D

Hosted by: David McVay & Josh Philpott

Welcome to the Geek Actually After Show. This un-stuctured and un-planned podcast is what what you get after we finish recording the two main shows Tech Actually and Film Actually. We basically just leave the mics on and record whatever we feel like talking about. This show gives us a chance to talk about anything that didn’t fit into the format of the main shows.

This week we discuss the new trailer for ‘Jackass 3D’ the creepy ‘Yogi Bear’ poster, the continuing Bill Henson saga, how we don’t value technology anymore, iTunes Try-Before-You-Buy and did Scrooge McDuck inspire ‘Inception’? We’ll let you be the judge.

Some Links of things we discussed: Continue reading
