Film Actually Podcast Promo *UPDATED*

This is just a short promo that has been recorded to establish the iTunes feed for the new official movie podcast of the Geek Actually Network. Film, TV and entertainment news through the eyes of big movie geeks, that’s the name of the game here.

Film Actually was originally the film component of The Geek Actually Podcast and has now been split off into it’s own show. The episodes start at episode 93 to maintain continuity with the other shows Tech Actually and The Geek Actually After Show (also available on iTunes). The cover art is temporary, we have new cover art being created as we speak.

The new shows will be recorded on July 17th live at https://geekactually.com/live – want to send us anything, send it to feedback@geekactaully.com

As soon as the iTunes feed is established, I’ll post the link here.

*UPDATE* The iTunes feed is now active and you can subscribe to Film Actually on iTunes by going to http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=382426662 or on a direct RSS by going here https://geekactually.com/category/filmactually/feed/

Geek Actually Episode 92 After Show – Runaway Mel

Hosted by: David McVay & Josh Philpott

Welcome to the Geek Actually Podcast After Show, the show were we just leave the mics on and record whatever we feel like talking about. This show gives us a chance to talk about anything that didn’t fit into the format of the main show. If this is your first experience with the Geek Actually Podcast, stop! This is not an actual show, it is the random ramblings of a bunch of geeks. Go listen to the main show first then come back to us.

The Geek Actually Podcast and After Show are recorded live on Ustream.

In this week’s After Show we discuss Mel Gibson’s latest meltdown again, this time with the actual recording of the rant. We also talk about the films of David Cronenberg. Josh is currently catching up with old Cronenberg films and this just opens us up for discussion about a very interesting filmmaker. We then review our second film of the week, ‘The Runaways’. This is a really good music biopic about Joan Jett and the all girl group of the 70’s The Runaways. Well worth having a look at. Watch the trailer here. We finish the show with Neil Patrick Harris’ Old Spice ad, which is a killer ad. Watch the ad here. Continue reading

Edward Norton Not Returning for The Avengers – Here Are Both Sides

Like most superhero fans, I really enjoyed the second Hulk movie, ‘The Incredible Hulk’ starring Edward Norton. I was not a huge fan of Ang Lee’s ‘Hulk’, I felt he missed the main point of the Hulk which was to have fun and, well, quite frankly, Hulk Smash!

The off screen issues of ‘The Incredible Hulk’ are fairly well covered. Edward Norton re-wrote a lot of the script and apparently (I wasn’t there of course) was a bit of a control freak during the production. There was also talk of him not wanting to do press for the finished film. When they announced ‘The Avengers’ was going to be a film, my geek heart leapt with joy, but would Edward Norton reprise his role as Bruce Banner? The Hulk does feature a lot in The Avengers comics and Marvel seems to have a plan about uniting all of the individual characters that they are making films of, but would Edward Norton, not the industry’s best team player, return to the role. The little tag at the end of ‘The Incredible Hulk’, the one with Stark and General Ross in the bar, would indicate that Marvel does indeed plan to use the Hulk in ‘The Avengers’, but would Edward Norton return to the role?

The answer is simple, no. The lead up to the simple answer is not so simple. Continue reading

Geek Actually Episode 92 – How Are You Ladies Fantastic

Hosts: David McVay & Josh Philpott

The Geek Actually Podcast, your weekly dose of ‘the week in geek’. This week David McVay and Josh Philpott go hunting as we review the new film in the Predator franchise, ‘Predators’. We also take a look at the week’s tech and entertainment news from a geek’s perspective.

This is the last Geek Actually Podcast in this form, as of next week the show will be broken up into three separate shows; Tech Actually, Film Actually and the Geek Actually After Show. All the information on this re-structure can be found here at geekactually.com.

This, however, is still The Geek Actually Podcast and it is fitting that it is just the two of us for this episode as it kind of takes us full circle. And as a side note, the episode numbers will have continuity so all three of next weeks shows will be episode 93, that means we are still heading to our 100th episode celebration in eight weeks. Your show links follow:

Typically we record the show live at 12pm Saturdays (AEST UTC +10) at geekactually.com/live Continue reading
