Welcome to the Geek Actually Podcast After Show, the show were we just leave the mics on and record whatever we feel like talking about. This show gives us a chance to talk about anything that didn’t fit into the format of the main show. If this is your first experience with the Geek Actually Podcast, stop! This is not an actual show, it is the random ramblings of a bunch of geeks. Go listen to the main show first then come back to us.

The Geek Actually Podcast and After Show are recorded live on Ustream.

A slightly more structured After Show this week as we have a second feature review. We take a look at the new Michael Caine film ‘Harry Brown’. This is a superb drama that is deeply affecting and disturbing. We also take a look at the new trailer for ‘Megamind’ and Google TV. We finish the show with Darth Vader’s Tom Tom recording session. (Note: We only started recording the feed as of episode 46, there are no videos of earlier shows.)

Google Pac-Man Here to Stay – Hooray!

Anyone who visited Google last weekend may have noticed that the Google Doodle was a working game of Pac-Man. This was to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Pac-Man and was only supposed to be up for 48 hours. It has proven to be so popular it has been given a new home at http://www.google.com/pacman/ and is here to stay.

Not only is the game insanely fun and an amazing recreation of the original game, it is also a great technical feat. Something like this is usually created using Flash, this game however is coded using HTML 5, the language that Apple is pushing for. I see great things ahead for HTML 5.

Go play the game and have fun.

Game Review: Red Dead Redemption

The old west. A time of whiskey drinkin’, butt kickin’ and gun slingin’. When men were men and the term “gay” meant “happy”. When stage coaches were a form of transport rather than some guy telling actors their lines. Believe it or not, these are concepts you have to take into account when playing Red Dead Redemption.

Red Dead Redemption is a 3rd person sandbox shooter set in 1911, when the “wild” west was being taken over by civilisation, telephones and the ultimate way to travel is on the back of your trusty steed. So this game’s not quite as gun slingin’ as one might be forgiven to think. There’s still plenty of lead swappin’ to be had but, somehow I did think there’d be a showdown at every turn. Maybe because of the “ROCKSTAR GAMES PRESENTS” sign on the cover of the game for one thing! For those three or four of you who don’t know, Rockstar Games are responsible for the very contraversial GRAND THEFT AUTO series. Continue reading

Ridley Scott in 3D!

Now, when Ridley Scott decides to do something, he really commits. Recently, Scott announced that he was going to make the ‘Alien’ prequel (or possibly back to back prequels) in 3D. This was odd enough, you don’t really think of Ridley Scott as jumping on the Fad wagon, however the story gets more unusual as New York Magazine’s Vulture now reports that he is in negotiations to form a partnership between his company, Scott Free Productions and the 3D company Symphony 3D. The new partnership is to be called Scott Three Productions (ha, clever). Continue reading

It’s been about a week since we put up a fun fan film, and this one was just found by the Little Geek and it is funny. I love the song. It rings so true. So turn up the volume and enjoy.
