Top 10 Fan Films

Okay, bear with me, this is a long post. A few days ago I was reading /Film and they had an article about a new fan made short film called ‘Street Fighter Legacy’. This new short film gets released this week and the film makers are promising everyone that it is the Street Fighter film the fans have been waiting for, a bold claim. However, it did get me thinking about fan films, and on the eve of this Street Fighter fan film (watch the teaser and find out more here) I present you with my top ten list of fan films from the internet.

The fan film is a funny beast, usually pretty low quality wet dreams by fans who just think they can do better than the original film or they just want to express their love for a particular movie or genre. ‘Star Wars’ is the primary target for most of these short films but other films and genres have also been ‘fanned’, including superheroes, ‘Star Trek’ and computer games. Robert Rodriguez shows off his ‘Illegal’ trailer for Machete!

Ain’t it Cool has just put up the exclusive ‘illegal’ trailer for the feature length film of ‘Machete’ and it is awesome! Follow the link now, don’t wait because they just fucked with the wrong Mexican!!!

For those who didn’t see the full length ‘Grindhouse’ may not have seen the fake trailers that were presented with the two features (Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Planet Terror’ and Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Death Proof’). ‘Machete’ was presented as one of these fake trailers and it was so popular that Rodriguez went out and shot the film. It has now been sitting in distribution hell for a year waiting to be released. After this new trailer, I say let the beast out, I must see this film.

‘Machete’ is directed by Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis and it is written by Robert Rodriguez. The film stars (are you ready for this cast?) Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Robert DeNiro, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey, Steven Seagal and introducing Don Johnson (that’s pure gold!).

Top Ten Video Game Enemies

In my time spent rummaging around the internet .. oh and believe me I do spend a lot of time doing that. I realised I’ve seen a lot of “top ten bad guys” lists… which are usually all the same, showing the persons love and admiration for Sephiroth and Bowser..not so much a measure of ability but more a gauge of their coolness. Even the best list compiled usually only outline at best a bosses ability to be a boss (aka that they are hard.. Which I thought that was the point) but I’ve been thinking.. What about the little guys, huh?

What about those creatures that evade our screens and block our path at every turn? A boss is hard because it has to be, what about the monsters that struck fear into our hearts just by their presence, not because they represented a 20 minute long fight, but the fact that the very encounter could kill you .. must these hard working underlings go out without a mention?

Well not anymore… This is a tribute list to the best enemies games have to offer. Continue reading

New Linda Lovelace biopic starring Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan by Ellen Von UnwerthLindsay Lohan has just been cast to play 70’s porn star Linda Lovelace in the independent biopic ‘Inferno’. Up until now this has been circulating the rumour mill but it has now been confirmed by producer Wali Razaqi and the official announcement will be made for foreign distributors and investors at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. Lohan herself may even appear at Cannes for the annoucement.

The film is based on the real life events in Lovelace’s life, the drama will deal with the difficulties she went through in her life and overcame. Bill Pullman has also been cast in the film as Hugh Hefner.

Razaqi told the LA Times “I would say it’s probably one of the most challenging roles any actor could play — and not because of the sexual content, necessarily — but more because she was so battered and beat up emotionally, that I think it’s gonna take everything Lindsay has to really be able to pull it off. Not that Lindsay’s life is similar in any way – but she’s been through a lot of ups and downs. A lot of times you’re loved and then you’re hated, and I think she can relate to those emotions and feelings. One week she’s the ‘it’ girl, and the next, she’s the ‘what are you doing?’ girl.” Continue reading

Milestone: iPad hits 1,000,000 Units Sold in 28 Days

Steve Jobs announced that on Friday Apple sold the 1 millionth iPad. That is 1,000,000 units in 28 days, outselling the original iPhone in the same time period. Not bad for a product that no one actually thought would sell. A lot of pundits actually thought it would be Apple’s next Cube or Newton.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs said the company reached the milestone mark in less than half the time it took the original iPhone (it took 74 days for the original iPhone).

Steve Jobs said, “Demand continues to exceed supply, and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”

Approximately 300,000 of the sold iPads are the new 3G model that went on sale last week. Apple shares rose 1.3 per cent on May 3rd (Australian time), I assume that the shareholders are very happy at the moment. Industry analysts predict that Apple will sell 5 million iPads this year.

The iPad gets released in Australia at the end of May and the local price will be announced on May 10th.
