Geek Actually Episode 72 – Dangerzone

Hosts: David McVay, Josh Philpott and Dave Kozicki

The Geek Actually Podcast is recorded live on Ustream with chat interaction.

This week David, Josh and Dave check our sanity at the door and review Martin Scorsese’s new film ‘Shutter Island’. A shout out to our friends at The Reel Junkies Podcast at weekendronin.com and The Movie Fan House Podcast at moviefanhouse.com.

This Week in Television: Dave K. introduces us all to ‘Archer’, a new animated series about spies that is wrong in every way. It is a fantastically funny show that needs to be seen by everyone. A reboot/continuation of ‘La Femme Nikita’ is on the way to the small screen.

Film News: John Hughes to get a special tribute at the Oscars, strong rumours that the ‘Spider-Man’ reboot will be based on the Ultimate series, the trailer for Woody Harrelson’s new film ‘Defendor’, Morgan Spurlock and Joss Whedon team up for new Comic-Con doco, ‘The Three Musketeers’ to be rebooted…again, the new ‘Toy Story 3’ gives us a little more story, Kevin Costner returns to the director’s chair, the international ‘Wall Street : Money Never Sleeps’ is an improvement but we still don’t really want to see the film and finally, Martin Scorese is going to make a kids film…in 3D!

This Week’s Feature Review: This week we review Martin Scorsese’s new thriller ‘Shutter Island’. After being delayed by 4 months, the film finally hits the screens. Was it worth the wait? A good film that has flaws. It may not be remembered as a Scorsese masterpiece but well worth a watch.

This episode carries an explicit tag due to infrequent coarse language.

Geek Actually Tech Episode 002 – Scarier Than Bikies

Hosts: David McVay, Josh Philpott and Shane Gregory

Geek Actually Tech is recorded live on Ustream with chat interaction.

The tech show by geeks for geeks and non-geeks. Accessible tech for everyone is the motto we live by. This weeks topic, Internet Censorship: Is the tide starting to turn?.

Tech News: Michael Atkinson (the South Australian Attorney General) has stated that gamers are scarier than motorcycle gangs. A recent Australian survey says that only 1 in 5 Australians look at internet porn – we call crap to these numbers. geekgasm! A missile is shot down by the first airborne laster – Star Wars here we come. And finally nerd Barbie is coming to a store near you, we offer an alternative :-) (see the bottom of this post for the two pictures)

Tech Opinion: This week we discuss the important issue of Internet Censorship. With Google threatening to pull out of China over censorship issues, does Australia really know what it is doing by trying to impose the Internet Censorship Filter? Does Senator Stephen Conroy read newspapers? One would think not with his quotes this week. Is the world ready to start opening up instead of locking down even further? We try and unravel some of these points in our main opinion section.
