The King of Pop Dies at 50

Michael Jackson's ThrillerAfter much speculation this morning, it has been now confirmed that Michael Jackson has died of a heart attack at the age of 50. This marks the end of an era for me, I was a child when The Jackson 5 were huge during the 70’s and I was a teenager during Jackson’s solo career and rise to fame as the King of Pop when the album Thriller was released. I do like his music and the man was an amazing showman. I think it would be fair to say that the man also invented the modern video clip by making small event films by huge name directors, such as Thriller and Black and White (both directed by John Landis), Bad (directed by Martin Scorsese) and Remember the Day (directed by John Singleton).

During his later days, his behaviour got weirder and weirder and I am not some rabid fan who would be an apologist for his weirdness, however it is the passing of a music legend and that is a sad day.

Reports say that he was working out and rehearsing a lot for his upcoming tour and many say it is a surprise that he had a heart attack. I kind of wonder if it has something to do with all the abuse that he has done to his body over the years. Whatever the reason, rest in peace Mr. Jackson. Now the big question is what happens to his poor children? I really hope Jackson has made preparations for them.

Geek News: 24 mins of Cameron’s Avatar Movie Screened!

That’s right geeks, finally someone has seen footage of the bank braking 3d spectacular! Those of you who have not been following the hype build, It has been well kept under a tight seal and only a few concept pictures and such have surfaced so far. This is really is an amazing feat in this digital age we live in,  I had expected at least more leaked still pics or shakey camera footage.. but no!

The first footage was aired at the recent CinemaExpo International in Amsterdam and responses seem really positive. If the critics I have heard from are to believed and it is as photo-realistic as people are saying then this is something to keep a very close eye on.. I will be all over this so I will be posting up any news that hits on this subject, so keep checking back.

The Last Airbender Teaser – Not As Bad As Expected!

Let me start by saying that I am a huge Avatar: The Last Airbender fan. Good, now that is out of the way, the film version of the series (simply called The Last Airbender, as not to be confused with James Cameron’s Avatar) scares me. I was at first excited by the prospect of a live action version of this wonderful animated series from Nickelodeon, then I found out that M. Night Shyamalan was set to direct… Good God, No! Then the controversy of the mixed ethnic cast came up and I was getting further and further away from excited.

Well, the teaser has just been released and, well, a little of the excitement is returning. Ang looks great, the fleet looks great, the temple looks great. The tone and music work. M. Night might just make this work. I am not going to get to excited though because I think back to The Happening and Lady in the Water and shudder.

Here is the teaser for your viewing pleasure.

Happy Birthday You Big Geek!!

Must See: Moon trailer

I know a lot of people have seen this before but I am dying for this film and had a friend come to me after having the privilage of seeing this overseas. He came back with nothing but praise, saying it is one of the best sci-fi films he has seen in years. I found this trailer floating around the net and instantly fell in love with it all over again, and I decided to share.. (cause I love sharing with you guys *sniff*)

For those who know nothing about it the movie, it follows Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) who is running a one man operation on the moon mining a precious resource that has helped diminish earths energy issues, with limited contact and only a robot helper (voiced by Kevin Spacey) on hand to talk with, Sam is about to end his 3 year stint alone with only weeks to go when things begin to unravel for him.

The cast, setting and atmosphere are all incredible and I urge all those who can to go check this one out… unless like me your stuck in Australia we will have to wait till September (DAMN!)

What do you think? Huh? Exciting?

*Edit by David: Someone made comment that the trailer looks like it gives the whole movie away, however, I have since been told that most of the events in the trailer take place in the first 20 minutes of the movie. I can’t wait for this one!*
