New X-Men Origins: Wolverine Trailer Now Online

WolverineAre you a fan of the X-Men? How about Hugh Jackman? Well here it is, the new trailer, fresh online today, for Hugh Jackman’s new film “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”. An origin story (thus the name) for the most popular X-man.

Forget Australia, Jackman was born to play Wolverine and not even a whisper of Nicole Kidman, yay!

The story (according to IMDB): Wolverine lives a mutant life, seeks revenge against Victor Creed (who will later become Sabretooth) for the death of his girlfriend, and ultimately ends up going through the mutant Weapon X program.

“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” is directed by Gavin Hood (Tsotsi, Rendition) and stars Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Ryan Reynolds, Dominic Monaghan, Lynn Collins, Danny Huston, Daniel Henney, Taylor Kitsch, Kevin Durand, Will i Am. Or to put this into geek terminology, the cast is Wolverine, Sabretooth, Deadpool, Beak, Silver Fox, Stryker, Agent Zero, Gambit, The Blob and the Black Eyed Pea’s dude!

The film is due for release 1st May 2009 (30th April 2009 in Australia)

Oh Crap! Stephen Norrington to Reinvent The Crow

Oh, for craps sake, what the hell is wrong with Hollywood?!?! A remake of the Brandon Lee film “The Crow” is now in the works. Stephen Norrington, who hasn’t made a film since “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”, has signed on to write and direct the remake. “The Crow” is based on the comic created by James O’Barr and was turned into a film by Alex Proyas in 1994. That’s right, let me say that again, 1994!

Now I was not a huge fan of “The Crow” (or any of the sequels, “The Crow: City of Angels”, “The Crow: Salvation”, “The Crow: Wicked Prayer” or the TV Series, “The Crow: Stairway to Heaven”) but I can appreciate that the film has a huge cult following. That and the fact that it gained a lot of notoriety when Brandon Lee died while making it. I think a remake of this film (this soon) is a huge mistake. Fans will boycott the film because they are angry at the idea of it. I could be wrong but I will watch this story very carefully.

I’m not sure why this is the film that has lured Stephen Norrington out of self imposed retirement. The first “Blade” was a fun film and “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” wasn’t a masterpiece by anybody’s standard but Norrington always showed promise as a filmmaker. I don’t think he is going to win any new fans by playing with a cult favourite.

To quote Mr. Norrington, “Whereas Proyas’ original was gloriously gothic and stylized, the new movie will be realistic, hard-edged and mysterious, almost documentary-style.” I think he has missed what fans liked most about the original and that is the gothic style that Alex Proyas infused the film with.

Time will tell. We here at GeekActually.com will keep an eye out for more details as they come to hand.

Liev Schreiber Gets Feral in Wolverine

Liev Schreiber is about to get feral, sinking his teeth and claws into the iconic role of Victor Creed, AKA Sabertooth for next summer’s prequel film X-Men Origins: Wolverine opposite Hugh Jackman as comicdom’s most popular mutant. And as he tells ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype!, he enjoyed vying with Logan to be the best there is at what he does, even if what he does isn’t very nice.
