Bateman on the Arrested Development Movie

For far too long, Jason Bateman just couldn’t get “Arrested.” Since the untimely cancellation of the cult favorite series “Arrested Development,” which aired on Fox from 2003-2006, Bateman has continued to express an interest in reviving the series as a feature film. And finally last month, Bateman’s co-star Jeffrey Tambor confirmed the much-discussed movie was a likely go, with series creator Mitch Hurwitz and executive producer Ron Howard reportedly inking deals with Fox Searchlight shortly thereafter.

Is Friday the 13th a Remake? * POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT *

Read the following article at your own risk, possible spoilers follow.

The new poster for the ‘remake’ of Friday the 13th has been unveiled at Yahoo.com. I put the quotes around the word remake because I don’t really think this is a remake. As mentioned in an earlier episode of the podcast, I saw the teaser trailer a few weeks ago and watched in great interest as Jason threatened young things with his machete.

I don’t think it is a spoiler now (the original film is almost 30 years old, but I could be wrong), to reveal that the killer was not Jason in the original film, it was his mom! Jason didn’t don the mask and start hacking up teenagers until the second film onwards. So what is the new film? A remake, a reimagining or just another sequel?

Still it was fun to hear the old screams of terrified teenagers again, so I will probably go see it. My hope is, teenagers today will see these remakes and then want to go back and watch the classic originals, whether that is Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, The Hitcher, The Fog, The Omen, The Hills Have Eyes or My Bloody Valentine (yes they have all been remakes kids).

Friday the 13th is directed by Marcus Nispel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and stars Amanda Righetti, Jared Padalecki, Jonathan Sadowski, Aaron Yoo and Travis Van Winkle.

Here are the teaser and theatrical trailers

Three filmmakers widen their canvas

Luhrmann, Nolan, Fincher tackle biggest pics ever — Their films, styles and storylines couldn’t be more different, but directors Christopher Nolan, Baz Luhrmann and David Fincher share a common conviction: that mega-budget spectacles aren’t just for the kids.
