Your Show Notes:

What We’ve Been Watching:

A collection of other things we’ve been watching during the week. This week Richard gives us the low down on the films in the Sydney Film Festival.

Feature Film Review 1

‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ directed by Rupert Sanders. It is written by Evan Daugherty, John Lee Hancock and Hossein Amini. It stars Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Ian McShane, Sam Claflin, Ray Winstone, Nick Frost, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan and Bob Hoskins.

In a twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen. Source: IMDB

Our Verdict: A strikingly beautiful film that is ultimately a mess. The film is so busy stealing scenes from other movies it completely forgets to tell a cohesive story. In what universe is Kristen Stewart the fairest of them all?

Watch the trailer here: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/universal/snowwhiteandthehuntsman/

Feature Film Review 2

‘The Cabin in the Woods’ directed by Drew Goddard. It is written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard. It stars Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford and Amy Acker.

Five friends go for a break at a remote cabin in the woods, where they get more than they bargained for. Together, they must discover the truth behind the cabin in the woods. Source: IMDB

Spoiler Section: 00:42:33 – 00:54:31 – Fast forward this bit if you don’t want to hear spoilers.

Our Verdict: A clever reworking of a tired genre. Joss Whedon again proves that he is a master of genre bending. This is a must see movie.

Lists of Five

This week our Lists of Five: What Was Old Is New Again (or Films That Redefined Their Genres).
Just a reminder, because we never like to just make things easy on ourselves, our lists are not necessarily top five lists, they are more or a less a list of film recommendations within the theme of the list.

Your Show Notes:

What We’ve Been Watching:

A collection of other things we’ve been watching during the week including Josh’s Bargain Basement: Shelter.

Feature Film Review

‘Prometheus’ directed by Ridley Scott. It is written by Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof. It stars Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Idris Elba.

Ridley Scott, director of Alien and Blade Runner, returns to the genre he helped define. With Prometheus, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race. Source: Official Site

Spoiler Section: 00:43:09 – 00:56:20 – Fast forward this bit if you don’t want to hear spoilers.

Our Verdict: A frustrating and disappointing film. Amazing visuals and jaw dropping 3D are let down by a muddy and confusing script.
