TRAILER: Mirror Mirror

Could “Mirror Mirror” be any different from the other Snow White film, “Snow White and the Huntsman”? I was not expecting this from director Tarsem Singh (“Immortals”), I expected an even darker tai on the Snow White fairy tale but he has decided to go completely the opposite direction and make a full on comedic family film. Does it work? If you read all of the comments about this trailer online, you would say no. However, I watched this trailer with my wife and 12 year old son and they both think it looks like a lot of fun and don’t like the look or tone of “Snow White and the Huntsman”, hmmm, food for thought.

As long as you put expectations at the door and take the film for what it is, a fun family comedy, I think Tarsem may have succeeded in what he was going for. I think this film is going to have a great deal of hate thrown at it even if it is good just because people are mad at the filmmaker for not giving them what they wanted.

“Mirror Mirror” opens in the US on March 16th 2012. The film is directed by Tarsem Singh and stars Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer, Sean Bean and Nathan Lane.

CLIPS: Burning Man

The excellent “Burning Man’ has now opened at cinemas and to help convince to you to see it, Transmission has made these three clips available for us to show you.

“Burning Man” is the reckless, sexy, funny, moving and ultimately life-affirming story of Tom, played by Matthew Goode (“Watchmen”), a British chef in a Bondi restaurant, who seems to have decided there are no longer any rules he needs to obey. Whatever Tom is up to, his actions seem to be tolerated by those around him.

As Tom descends into darkness, fragments of a different story begin to emerge. All the women in his world are trying in their own, very different ways to help put him back together.

“Burning Man” is directed by Jonathan Teplitzky and starring Matthew Goode, Bojana Novakovic, Essie Davis, Rachel Griffiths, Kerry Fox, Anthony Hayes and Kate Beehan is now playing in Australian cinemas. It is a must see film.

Make sure you check out my exclusive interview with writer director Jonathan Teplitzky and star Bojana Novakovic by clicking here.

TRAILER: The Hunger Games

I’m going to say this upfront, I am not really familiar with the source material for “The Hunger Games”. Yes, I have heard about it and I know that it has generated a huge following, I just haven’t gotten around to reading any of the books. So I am not very emotionally attached to it and when the film got announced I didn’t really know what the hoopla was about.

Now that the trailer has come out and I am a little more interested. I’m not bursting with excitement because the concept of hunting humans has been done before… many times. But the film could prove to be a fun watch and I do like Jennifer Lawrence.

“The Hunger Games” will be released in Australia on March 22nd 2012.

TRAILER: Pixar’s Brave

Oh yeah! Now that’s better, Pixar had me concerned after the abysmal “Cars 2” that they had lost their amazing mojo. But along comes the first full trailer to their amazing looking new fantasy film, “Brave” and all is forgiven. I can’t wait to see this beautifully shot and utterly charming looking film.

“Brave” will be released in Australia on the 21st of June 2012.

Exclusive Interview with Burning Man Director Jonathan Teplitzky and Star Bojana Novakovic

“Burning Man” the new drama written and directed by Jonathan Teplitzky (“Better Than Sex”, “Getting’ Square”) is a powerful piece of work. An amazing script married with stunning visuals and terrific performances make this film about loss, mourning and ultimately rediscovering life compelling viewing. The script’s fractured narrative builds upon itself throughout the running time of the film and it is extraordinary to watch, not only because it it slots together perfectly by the end but because Teplitzky wrote it that way. One of my first questions in this interview was about the script and he informed me that he didn’t write it in linear form and then chop it up, nor did he lay it out on index cards…he just wrote it out as it is in the film. When you see the film you will realise that this is no simple task.

The interview you are about to watch was recorded on October 14th 2011 at the Intercontinental Hotel here in Sydney as part of the film’s Junket. Jonathan Teplitzky and I were also joined by one of the stars of the film, Bojana Novakovic (“Devil”, “Edge of Darkness”, “Drag Me To Hell”). The two of them were very gracious with their time and we even had a few laughs along the way. Along with talking about the script we also cover topic like how did Bojana prepare for such a raw performance and how does Jonathan like directing actors.
