RED BAND TRAILER – 21 Jump Street

Another TV show from the 80s turned into a big screen feature film, why?!? 21 Jump Street was a cheesy, camp cop show from the mind of Stephen J Cannell, the creator of The A-Team, that centred around a special police unit that patrolled high schools. It was stupid then and I hate to say it but the new film doesn’t look much better. This is the red band trailer so it might be a little NSFW.

Jonah Hill has lost a ton of weight for this film and Channing Tatum looks as dopy as ever… I have a bad feeling about this one.

In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier – and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.

21 Jump Street will be released on the 16th of March 2012 in the US and on 29th of March 2012 in Australia from Sony.

REPLAY – Geek Actually Live Video Shows for November 5th, 2011

Here are the live show recordings of this week’s “Geek Actually” and “Film Actually” podcasts. The shows were recorded live on November 5th, 2011. Because the shows are live, you get them here with all the mistakes intact. For a much better listening experience listen to the audio podcasts for these episodes. As always, these videos are presented here as a record of the live session and not as a reflection of the final show.

These will be the final live shows for awhile, new work commitments mean that we can’t lock down a steady recording day at the moment. We will continue to do the occasional live special here and there but the regular shows Film Actually and Behind the Panels will now be recorded as straight audio shows. Follow us on Twitter (@geekactually) for news on specials.

The video shows are now watchable on iOS devices as Ustream’s embeds are now compatible.

Between The Panels (beta) Issue 1

Hosted By: David McVay & Richard Gray

We’ve spoken about it on the Geek Actually podcast and we have planned it for weeks, and now here it is! Between the Panels the new comic book podcast hosted by David McVay and Richard Gray.

This first issue is really a beta issue as it has temporary music and temporary cover art and really we are still working out format issues etc. But like everything at Geek Actually we like to work in public so we thought we would just put it out there and, via your feedback, we will shape the show into its final version. Between the Panels is a discussion show about what is hot and what is not in the world of comic books. We are also going to dedicate a fair portion of future shows to our book club. Every week a book, or series of books, will be selected and the next week we will dig in and analyse the selected title.

This week, because it is the first episode we decide to start small and we tackle DC Comics big reboot – The New 52. What are the highlights and the low points of the big DC re-structure. We also talk a little about Marvel’s next phase of movies, what happens after The Avengers?

Have you got something to say? We want to hear from you, send email to comics@geekactually.com or drop us a voicemail at 02 8011 3167 (Skype ID: geekactually).

If you are an iTunes user, please stand by. The iTunes feed will be available in the next couple of days. The next two or three issues will come out on the Geek Actually and Film Actually feeds to get things started.

Make sure you check out our other fine podcasts Geek Actually for all your tech and geek culture needs and Film Actually for the latest in cinema.

TRAILER: Young Adult

Our friends over at Paramount Pictures Australia have made this trailer for “Young Adult”, the new Jason Reitman (“Thank You For Smoking” & “Up In The Air”) film written by Diablo Cody (“Juno”), available to us. Now I am a huge fan of Jason Reitman and “Up In The Air” and “Thank You For Smoking” both rate up there as some of my favourite films so I will be lining up to see this when it comes out. Diablo Cody is another story all together. I didn’t mind “Juno” and at the time I thought it was fairly fresh and I loved Ellen Page but “Jennifer’s Body” was awful. So will this film sink or swim? I hope it swims and swims far, Reitman deserves another hit.

Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron plays Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature who returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Patrick Wilson).  When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Patton Oswalt) who hasn’t quite gotten over high school, either.

“Young Adult” is directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody. It stars Charlize Theron, Patrick Wilson, Elizabeth Reaser and J. K. Simmons. It opens across Australia on January 19th 2012.
