NEW TRAILER: Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol

There is not a lot I can say here except this is how you cut an action film trailer. I am really looking forward “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”, the four instalment in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise.

This is not just another mission. The IMF is shut down when it’s implicated in a global terrorist bombing plot. Ghost Protocol is initiated and Ethan Hunt and his rogue new team must go undercover to clear their organization’s name. No help, no contact, off the grid. You have never seen a mission grittier and more intense than this.

“Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” is directed by Brad Bird (“The Incredibles” & “The Iron Giant”) and stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg, Josh Holloway and Tom Wilkinson. Paramount Pictures will open the film on the 15th of December.

Just as a side note, I’m going to a special presentation of some footage from the film on Monday, I’ll report back after I’ve seen it.

REVIEW: Drive

Every now and then a film will come along that is destined to become a classic. These cinema gems will usually display unique vision, direction, great acting or a statement for its generation. For those that see it, these are the reason we watch films.

Drive came out of nowhere, trailer looked good, but with everything coming out at once it was shifted to the back of my mind. The first Sydney screening came and I missed it. Its effect on those that watched it however was undeniable, the buzz was at a fever pitch. It was official, Drive was a MUST see film.

Drive is a difficult film to talk about without wrecking the experience. Most of its advertising has it looking like a Fast and Furious film, and trust me it is about as far as you can get from that type of film. The film follows a character known only as the driver, a mechanic/stunt driver by day who moonlights as getaway driver by night. the driver is a quiet reserved man who avoids conflict and lives only to drive, allowing him to avoid the shady and dangerous worlds that he sits very close to the edge of with the lifestyle he lives. He becomes obsessed by the girl next door, Irene (Carey Mulligan) and is fascinated by the simple life she has with her son. By chance Irene’s car breaks down and after some brilliantly directed moments of attraction the two begin to grow close. As time goes on and the driver becomes a regular part of Irene’s life and he finds passion for the first time outside of driving. However, Irene is married and when her husband is released from prison everything begins to fall apart. His relationship with Irene becomes strained, tempers flare and old family debts begin to rear their heads, endangering his new friends. As he tries to help, his life becomes more complicated and the world he has avoided for so long begins to unravel with some rather violent consequences. Continue reading

Film Actually Presents The League – Exclusive Chris Zylka (Star of Shark Night 3D) Interview

David McVay of the Film Actually podcast, representing a dynamic group of bloggers known collectively as The League, got a chance to have a telephone interview with actor Chris Zylka about his new film “Shark Night 3D”.

The new new horror film by David R. Ellis (“Snakes on a Plane”) is about a group of friends that spend a weekend at a lakeside house only to find that danger lurks beneath the waters. Yet their biggest fear is realised when they discover that the lake’s shark inhabitants are not their only enemy. When attempts to skip town fail one by one, these college kids—or the ones who are left—will have to battle their enemies head-on in order to survive.

Chris was fun company as he tells David a little about the new film, fear of the water, working with a green screen and he even opened up a little about playing Flash Thompson in next year’s re-boot “The Amazing Spider-Man”.

We need to thank Kasha Tabaka at Icon Film Distribution and A. Faye Krissberg at PR Works for making this interview possible and of course Chris Zylka for taking some time out of his busy schedule to talk to us.

About The League
In the beginning there was chaos, a vast information network that provided few islands of hope. Then there was a light, a shimmering hope in the darkness. A portal for lovers of the wonders of celluloid and the entertainment industry. Then there came another, and another ushering in a golden age of wonders the likes the world had never seen. By day, they live out their lives as the humble David McVay of Geek Actually, Jorge Duran of The Spotlight Report, Richard Gray of The Reel Bits, Josh Philpott of Hip Hop Net and Dave Longo of Damn Good Cup, but when the signal goes out they come together as one! The League assembles! Tremble all who dare stand in its path!

The Music used in this special presentation comes from the original soundtrack of “Shark Night 3D”. The track is “Opening Titles – Shark Night 3D” by Graeme Revell.

The Film Actually podcast can be found on iTunes, Stitcher Radio or watched live every Saturday.
