Feature Film Review

‘Crazy Stupid Love’ directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. It is written by Dan Fogelman. It stars Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Analeigh Tipton, Jonah Bobo, Joey King, Marisa Tomei and Kevin Bacon.

At forty-something, straight-laced Cal Weaver is living the dream – good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart. But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily, has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his “perfect” life quickly unravels. Worse, in today’s single world, Cal, who hasn’t dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth. Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protégé to handsome, thirty-something player Jacob Palmer. Source: Warner Bros.

Lists of Five

This week our Lists of Five: Five of the Most Quotable Films. Find yourself randomly quoting films for no apparent reason, so do we and these are some of the films that did this to us.
Just a reminder, because we never like to just make things easy on ourselves, our lists are not necessarily top five lists, they are more or a less a list of film recommendations within the theme of the list.

REPLAY – Geek Actually Live Video Shows for October 1st, 2011

Here are the live show recordings of this week’s “Geek Actually” and “Film Actually” podcasts. The show was recorded live on October 1st, 2011. Because the shows are live, you get them here with all the mistakes intact and this week there is a big mistake. A setting wasn’t set quite right and the audio for the shows was coming from the live mic on the main computer rather than coming off the mixer which is how we usually do it, so the sound is terrible and the clips that are played have no live sound. For a much better listening experience listen to the audio podcasts for these episodes. As always, these videos are presented here as a record of the live session and not as a reflection of the final show.

The video shows are now watchable on iOS devices as Ustream’s embeds are now compatible.

The Geek Actually podcasts are recorded live every Saturday from 12pm (AEST) or UTC +10 at geekactually.com/live – You can now watch us live on Facebook by clicking here.

The Reel Bits Interview with Steve Carrell on Crazy Stupid Love

My good friend and fellow League member Richard Gray at The Reel Bits had the opportunity to interview Steve Carrell at the “Crazy Stupid Love” junket and it is well worth reading.

Richard Gray Wrote:

Steve Carell is a very busy man. Having just finished a historic seven-year run on TV’s The Office, Carell is not one to rest on his laurels. Building on a film career that began with small but memorable roles in Bruce Almightyand Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, it was with The 40 Year Old Virginthat his status as a leading man in comedy began. Today he continues his film career as both an actor and heading his Carousel Productions, where he served as producer forCrazy Stupid Love, and has recently launched a television division. As such, he has little time for tourism. Looking out the window of a hotel room at the Sydney Harbour Bridge, he comments “This is as much sightseeing as I’m doing”.

With Crazy Stupid Love, Carell plays a man who is on the verge of divorce with his wife (Julianne Moore) after decades of marriage, and chooses to try and get over her with the help of ladies man Jacob (Ryan Gosling, Drive). “I thought it was a great script”, Carell notes in response to his dual star/producer duties. “I thought it was different. It didn’t read to me like a typical romantic comedy, when on the third page the character jumps out of a moving car because he can’t engage in a discussion with his soon to be ex-wife…It was funny, and also heartbreaking at the same time. So that really set the tone in my mind as to what the movie would be”.

TRAILER & POSTER – Man on a Ledge

On last week’s Film Actually episode we played and discussed this trailer and I thought for simplicity we should just post this up here so you can find it quicker. Also Hoyts distribution has released the international poster and that gave me a good excuse to do this post.

Now, I am not a huge Sam Worthington fan, so”Man on a Ledge” is going to be a hard sell to me, this trailer is a set one the right direction and so far I am a little interested. Watch the trailer below and tell me what you think in the comments below.

On-Set Photos from The Dark Knight Rises – Catwoman Has Ears

Okay, I try not to put up lots of on-set, behind the scenes photos, I love looking at them but they always cause problems when you put them online. People seem to constantly misunderstand that onset photos are not lit properly and usually out of context so do not represent the final product. Set photos leak and people start jumping up and down about what is wrong with the film before actually seeing the finished product.

That being said I am republishing these behind the scenes photos from “The Dark Knight Rises” because they show Catwoman’s (Anne Hathaway) full costume. When Warner Bros. revealed the first official photo of Hathaway in costume everyone seemed to freak out that she didn’t have ears… I mean what is Catwoman without her ears? So these behind the scenes photos show Hathaway in full costume on the set and look, she has ears!

The Photos below were originally published by Splash News Continue reading
