New International Poster for The Adventures of Tintin

This new international poster was released a couple of days ago from Paramount Pictures Australia and it is hot. We are really starting to get a sense of the adventure aspect of the film. Click the small version below to see the full hi-res version.

“The Adventures of Tintin” is directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Peter Jackson, based on the comics by Hergé. It is being released for the Christmas season 2011.

What do you think? Are you getting as excited for this film as me? Comment below.

Exciting New Clip from Cowboys & Aliens

Our good friends over at Paramount Pictures Australia have made a new clip from “Cowboys & Aliens” available to help tide you over until its release next week. This is a great scene in the movie (I saw it today) and shows just how badass Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig) is. Don’t believe the negative press on this film, it is a really fun adventure film and my full review will be up soon.

“Cowboys & Aliens” stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell & Clancy Brown. It is directed by “Iron Man 1 & 2” helmer Jon Favreau and produced by Steven Spielberg. It opens in Australia on August the 18th.

Review: Green Lantern

One of the advantages/disadvantages of living in Australia is that it sometimes takes films so long to get here that the initial hype can wear off. In the case of the new Martin Campbell (“Casino Royal”) film “Green Lantern” it is an advantage. The decision by Warner/Roadshow to hold this film from Australian release for so many weeks after its US debut is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it has killed any anticipation that Australian audiences might have had for this film, on the other hand, after all the bad reviews it received, expectations for this film couldn’t be much lower. When it was released in the US, “Green Lantern” was savaged by the critics and generally ignored by audiences. In Australia, we heard and read all the reviews and over the last few weeks have wondered whether the film could really be that bad. So, is it? No, I didn’t think so, I didn’t hate this movie. I just didn’t think it was particularly great. It is an average action film that is nowhere near as bad as I was led to believe. Continue reading

Behind the Scenes Video of Game of Thrones Shows Just How Effects Heavy The Show Is

It is no secret around here, that I am a huge “Game of Thrones” fan. So, I was thrilled to find this video that showed a behind-the-scenes look at the visual effects of the TV show. I don’t think it surprises any of us that “Game of Thrones” has so many visual effects, is just how well they are integrated that is amazing. This video simply shows the before and after view of several scenes from the show and it’s just a lot of fun to watch. Just a quick note, there are spoilers for the first season in this video, don’t watch it if you haven’t finished watching the first season. If you don’t mind the spoilers or you have seen all of season one, sit back and enjoy the video.

*Update 31/07/2012 – Film Actually was a split off from the main Geek Actually show and originally maintained numbering continuity with that show. That logic no longer works as the shows have become two unique entities, so we have gone back and re-numbered the Film Actually shows to reflect their true episode number. This show is now officially episode 50 but when you listen to the show you will hear it referred to as episode 142, this is why. Sorry about any confusion or inconvenience.

Film Actually is recorded live every Saturday. Go to geekactually.com/live for the schedule and to watch it

Feature Film Review

‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ directed by Rupert Wyatt and written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver suggested by the novel by Pierre Boulle. It stars James Franco, Frieda Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo and Andy Serkis as Caesar.

Set in modern day San Francisco, the film tells the back story of the classic series of films. A break through drug to combat and cure Alzheimer’s disease is tested on apes and leads to increased intelligence. Lists of Five

This week our Lists of Five: Five Great Animal Movies. They might be a cute kitten or apes that rule the planet, animals come in all shapes and sizes in cinema. List five great movies where the animal (or animals) are part of, or all of, the starring cast. Films can be animated or live action.

Just a reminder, because we never like to just make things easy on ourselves, our lists are not necessarily top five lists, they are more or a less a list of film recommendations within the theme of the list.
