First Look: The Dark Knight Rises – Anne Hathaway in Costume as Catwoman

Yesterday was the big Superman costume reveal and today I wake up to find that /Film has posted the first image of Anne Hathaway in costume as Selina Kyle/Catwoman from “The Dark Knight Rises”. Unlike the leaked set pictures of Bane, this looks like it is an official publicity shot. Continue reading

Trailer: Paranormal Activity 3

When a series is this successful it is inevitable that they will keep returning to the money tree. That is not to say this is a bad film, I haven’t seen it yet, it’s just that the premise is starting to run a little thin.

For those that love the series, here is the trailer for the latest ghostly tale “Paranormal Activity 3”. I don’t know a lot about what the film is about but I’m going to guess that it is about a family that gets haunted by a ghost. The trailer is actually pretty tense but I can’t shake the feeling that we have seen it all before.

Here is the trailer thanks to Paramount Australia. The film comes out in October.

Trailer: Chalet Girl

Warning to all the dudes who aren’t in touch with their feelings, chick flick ahead.

Okay, now that warning is out of the way, here is a really fun looking film. There are often times that my wife and I like to curl up and watch a nice romantic comedy together and this is right up her alley.

According to IMDB:

Pretty tomboy Kim Matthews, 19, used to be a champion skateboarder – but now she’s stuck in a dead end job trying to support her Dad. Opportunity comes knocking in the form of a catering job in the one of the most exclusive chalets in the Alps. At first, Kim’s baffled by this bizarre new world of posh people, champagne and skiing – but then she discovers snowboarding, and the chance to win some much-needed prize money at the big end-of-season competition. But before she can become a champion again, Kim’s going to have to dig deep to overcome her fears. Hard enough, without the complicating factor of Jonny, her handsome – though spoken for – boss…

Superman’s Costume Revealed: Henry Cavill as Superman in “Man of Steel”

On the Film Actually podcast we have talked about this film a lot over the last few months. We have debated the choice of director (Zack Snyder) and the casting choices of of Ma (Diane Lane) and Pa (Kevin Costner) Kent, Jor El (Russell Crowe) and Lois Lane (Amy Adams). We have complained that they claim it isn’t an origin story but then put in Jor El and the Kent’s which, we think, kinda does make it an origin story. They claimed that General Zod would not be the central bad guy and then announce that Michael Shannon has been cast as Zod.  So we have been hard on this film. In my personal opinion it sounds kind of like a train wreck waiting to happen but I have been wrong about these things before. Continue reading

Review: Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Although at first glance this looks like a stand alone, full reboot of the classic “Planet of the Apes” series of films, on closer inspection there are a lot of little hints that this is actually pretty closely related to the original 1968 film starring Charlton Heston. Forget the Tim Burton reboot in 2001, this film is not related to that at all.

Set in the present day, scientist Will Rodman (James Franco) is experimenting on chimps, trying to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease to save his father (John Lithgow). His new drug shows amazing results healing the brain and as a side effect it seems to be boosting the intelligence of the apes. After a lab mishap, his chimps are destroyed except for one newborn who has inherited the effects of the drug from his mother. Rodman takes the chimp named Caesar home and continues to study him while he raises him. When Caesar is taken from Rodman and sent to an ape shelter, he uses his intelligence to help organise the other apes and the revolution begins. Continue reading
