Trailer: Red Tails

I feel like this has been a long time coming, this is the first trailer for the George Lucas produced WWII action epic “Red Tails”. The film is about the first all African-American aerial combat unit known as The Tuskegee Airmen. The film looks spectacular and I am really looking forward to it. The story was told as an HBO television movie a few years back and I always felt that it needed the big screen treatment because it is a really amazing story.

“Red Tails” is directed by Anthony Hemingway and stars Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Bryan Cranston, Nate Parker, David Oyelowo, Tristan Wilds, Cliff Smith aka Method Man, Kevin Phillips, Rick Otto, Lee Tergesen, Andre Royo, Ne-Yo, Elijah Kelley, Marcus T. Paulk, Leslie Odom Jr., Michael B. Jordan and Daniela Ruah. The film opens in January 2012.

Trailer: Battleship

We’ve been talking about director Peter Berg’s “Battleship” for sometime now. The film, which is based on the classic Milton Bradley board game, was announced sometime ago and it has been the brunt of many jokes ever since. Several months ago on TV’s “The Colbert Report”, Stephen Colbert had joked that Keanu Reeves should have been cast as the peg! Then news surfaced that it would be a film about the Navy versus aliens and we all groaned. “What does this have to do with the game?!?!” we all yelled.

Well now the trailer has been revealed and we can finally see what it is all about. An it looks basically like a new Transformers film. The trailer does nothing for me and there is nary a “You sank my battleship” in sight. I will hold of criticism until the film actually comes out but as a trailer it is pretty ordinary. Peter Berg is definitely channeling Michael Bay here.

“Battleship” stars Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgård, Taylor Kitsch, Rihanna, Peter MacNicol and Josh Pence. The film opens in 2012 and my just be what causes the end of the world :-)

Geek Actually Ep141 – Sean’s Show and Tell

Hosted by: David McVay & Josh Philpott with guest Sean Lindsay

This week on Geek Actually, David and Josh are joined by Sean Lindsay from 3Dhorizon.com.au. Sean has brought in a review unit of the new 3D laptop from Sony and it is magnificent. Also this week, more roadblocks on the way to the R18+ rating for games, Android sales figures might not be as spectacular as they at first look, humans have problems comprehending Androids (the robots not the phones) and more on the fake Chinese Apple Stores. Enjoy.

Geek Actually is the fusion of the old Tech Actually and Geek Actually After Show podcasts. All the tech and geek goodness that you have come to expect from the old shows wrapped up and made easier to swallow as one simple, little, tasty podcast. DeltaKnight (AKA DAvid Murray) continues to supply us with some of the geekiest stories on the web and Josh and David love to play with the tech news.

Barkin’ Buddy – The Social Network For Dogs

Now here is something a little unusual, a social network for dogs. I, not being a dog owner myself, immediately thought to myself, “really?” But then I spoke to a friend of mine who is a dog owner and lover and they immediately wanted to know how they could get to it. So what do I know?

“Barkin’ Buddy” is a new app for the iPhone that is, simply put, a social network and relationship manager for the dog lover. This social networking app allows owners to build profiles, add buddies, make new friends to play with, locate dog friendly locations and ultimately better manage their pet’s relationships.

Created by the Radical Ideas Group and available in the iTunes App Store for $1.99, this is going to be the must have app for dog lovers everywhere. Continue reading

Happy 3rd Anniversary To Us!

Hi Everyone,

I just want to take a moment to say thank you.

Three years ago today the Geek Actually podcast had its debut on the web. One hundred and forty episodes of Geek Actually, fifty two Film Actually episodes, twenty two After Shows, thirty two Tech Actually episodes and thirty six Platforms episodes and we are still going strong. That is approximately three hundred and eighty eight hours of podcasting goodness to catch up on :-)

Three years ago I sat down with Jacob Oberman and recorded a lively, unscripted chat show that was about movies, tech and any other geeky crap we could think of. It was a mess but so much fun and I have been doing it ever since. Of course Jacob moved on and Josh Philpott now co-hosts the show with me and we have had an assortment of guests over the years, really to many to list, but I want to thank everyone who has taken time out of their busy schedules to come on my little show. Over the last three years we have gone from one little humble audio show to a full blown live video show that spawns two weekly audio podcasts.

So, again, a huge thanks to all of the guests and the fans (without you guys, there is no show) for helping me make this a really fun set of shows.

Here’s to more years to come.

Thanks,

David McVay
