At last, it’s here. The first teaser for Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” has been released and it’s…okay. I guess we really shouldn’t be surprised considering the first teaser for “The Dark Knight” a few years ago which was really just a bat symbol and some dialogue. Nolan likes to tease and this teaser does just that. Anyway, it is always nice to see progress on a project that you anticipate. So watch the teaser below and tell us what you thought in the comments below.

Trailer: Glee – The 3D Concert Movie
I can’t help myself, I’m a “Glee” fan. I enjoy the sheer fun and energy of the show and I enjoy a fun, well staged musical number. The producers have done an amazing job of gathering a very talented group of young performers for the show and they know it because they took them on tour.
Now Twentieth Century Fox is presenting that concert as a 3D movie for very limited cinema run in August. The trailer for this film surfaced during the last week and I thought I’d share it with you. I know that some of you aren’t fans and that is okay, you don’t need to read any further. For those that are interested in what looks to be a fun music event here is the trailer for your viewing pleasure.
“Glee: The 3D Concert Movie” is directed by Kevin Tancharoen and it stars the cast of the series including Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Mark Salling, Dianna Agron, Naya Rivera, Heather Morris, Harry Shum, Jr., Chord Overstreet, Darren Criss, Ashley Fink.It opens in Australia by Twentieth Century Fox on August 11th.

Trailer: The Thing – Remake or Prequel?
We’ve been talking about this project for awhile now on the Film Actually podcast. We (Josh and I) are both huge fans of John Carpenter’s 1982 film “The Thing” which in itself is a remake of the 1953 film “The Thing From Another World” directed by Christian Nyby and an uncredited Howard Hawks. Both films are based on John W. Campbell Jr.’s novella “Who Goes There?” published in 1938. John Carpenter’s version was much closer to the source material than the Nyby/Hawks version and, in my opinion, the superior film. When this version was announced we got very nervous, was it a remake of the remake or prequel to remake? My god this gets confusing.
Later Universal announced that the new film directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton and Ulrich Thomsen is in fact a prequel to the 1982 film. This film is supposed to tell the story about the Norwegian camp visited in the first film and the film will end where the 1982 film starts. Things get a little more complicated by the fact that the film is simply called “The Thing” and when you watch the trailer below you’ll notice that the film just looks like a remake of Carpenter’s film. *Update 31/07/2012 – Film Actually was a split off from the main Geek Actually show and originally maintained numbering continuity with that show. That logic no longer works as the shows have become two unique entities, so we have gone back and re-numbered the Film Actually shows to reflect their true episode number. This show is now officially episode 47 but when you listen to the show you will hear it referred to as episode 139, this is why. Sorry about any confusion or inconvenience.
Film Actually is recorded live every Saturday. Go to geekactually.com/live for the schedule and to watch it
Your show notes:
Feature Film Review
‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’ directed by David Yates and written by Steve Kloves based on the novel by J.K. Rowling. It stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Ralph Fiennes, Alan Rickman, Warwick Davis, Helena Bonham Carter, Evanna Lynch, Jason Isaacs and just about every other working actor in England.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, is the final adventure in the Harry Potter film series. The much-anticipated motion picture event is the second of two full-length parts. In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort. It all ends here. – Source Warner Bros.
Our Verdict: A great, action packed finale to a ten year old series of films. Well worth seeing but Part 1 is required viewing.

This week our Lists of Five: Five Fantastic Fantasy Films. It could be sword and sorcery, wizards and dragons, demons and demi-gods or just about anything thing else fantastical. We list five of the great ones.
Just a reminder, because we never like to just make things easy on ourselves, our lists are not necessarily top five lists, they are more or a less a list of film recommendations within the theme of the list.

Video: Cowboys & Aliens – An Inside Look
This new genre bending film directed by “Iron Man” director Jon Favreau and based on the graphic novel of the same name is fast becoming one of the most anticipated films of the year. “Cowboys & Aliens” is great little tale of how people in the old west would handle an alien invasion, great idea.
It is no secret that everyone here at Geek Actually is eagerly awaiting its debut. To help tide us over, our friends at Paramount Pictures Australia have made this great little behind the scenes video available for us to share with the world. So enjoy “Cowboys & Aliens – An Inside Look” and hopefully it will help calm you down and make the wait that little bit more bearable.
“Cowboys & Aliens” opens in Australia on the 18th of August.
