Review: Transformers – Dark of the Moon

“Transformers: Dark of the Moon” is directed by Michael Bay and written by Ehren Kruger. It stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro, Alan Tudyk, Tyrese Gibson, Patrick Dempsey, France McDormand, John Dunn, Julia White and John Malkovich. It is playing nationwide as of today.

Ok, let’s get this out of the way: “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” was terrible. Besides the blatant racism, the film lacked enough Transformers-like action or fun to actually ever be truly enjoyable. Fun was constantly torn out from under you as a viewer by bad dialog or Megan Fox’s bizarrely unattractive face, add to this an indecipherable plot line and you left the cinema furious. It was an experience that I will never forget. This film has raped part of my childhood, but over time I’ve learned to rise above it.

However, because I am a geek and therefore a sucker for giant robots and special effects, when trailers arose for “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” I became cautiously optimistic. It wasn’t like I’d forgotten the horror, I was just willing to bench it for a chance to see more Transformers wail on each other. Unlike some people though, I vowed to remember that Michael Bay is a 50 year old pubescent teenager, funnily enough I don’t mean that with any spite attached. The man makes films for himself, low brow, big action, sex-fests. His love of cars, explosions and women are undeniable, his style hasn’t changed since the 90s and it’s not going to change now, to him he is just perfecting his craft. Continue reading

Trailer: Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

Just a quick one because I love the “Mission: Impossible” movies, well not part two but I love part one and three. I have to say I love the visuals of this trailer but I don’t like the choice in music, we really needed more of the “Mission: Impossible” theme.

This time ’round, Tom Cruise is joined by Jeremy Renner in what looks like a hand off film. If Ghost Protocol is successful I can imagine future Mission films will star Renner as Cruise’s replacement.

Anyway “Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol” opens in December 2011, check out the trailer below.

Teaser Trailer: Pixar’s Brave

Thank god for this teaser! After “Cars 2” I needed something to restore my faith in Pixar and here it is, “Brave”.

The new animated film stars the voice work of Emma Thompson, Kelly MacDonald, Kevin McKidd, Robbie Coltrane, Julie Walters, Craig Ferguson and Billy Connolly.

“Brave” is due for release in the Summer movie season of 2012. This epic fantasy from Pixar just looks gorgeous.

I so want to see this film. Continue reading

New Trailer: Immortals

What happens when “300” and “Clash of the Titans” have a love child? It looks like you get “Immortals”, the new fantasy film directed by Tarsem Singh (“The Cell”). I’m still not totally sold on this film, it all feels a little like I’ve seen it before but I will say that the film sure is pretty. If nothing else, it will also give us a good look at the future Superman, Henry Cavill, in full action mode.

The film stars Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke, John Hurt, Luke Evans, Stephen Dorff, Isabel Lucas and Freida Pinto. It opens on the 11th of November 2011. Watch the trailer below. Continue reading

Well it was inevitable, “Glee The 3D Concert Movie” hits cinemas in August. The “Glee” TV series is so popular that it has spawned a North American live concert tour. That tour was filmed and now fans of the series from around the world will be able to join the fun.

I am a fan of “Glee” and even though I don’t think I would have gone to see the live concert, I am interested enough to see the event on screen. There is no doubt that these guys can sing and they are fun to watch. This won’t be for everyone but if you are interested you’ll find the official press release from our friends at Twentieth Century Fox Film Distributors (Australia) below: Continue reading
