Duke Nukem Forever Gets a Street Date…Finally!

2K games has now announced that the long overdue “Duke Nukem Forever” will be in stores in the US May 3rd, 2011 and in international stores May 6th, 2011. After many promises since 1995, The Duke is finally going to get a chance to kick some alien butt again. I will be first in line. Game Informer broke the story and even game developer GearBox was surprised, here is a quote from the original article:

“Somehow the guys at Game Informer magazine discovered Duke Nukem Forever’s launch date before I did,” joked Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software and executive producer of Duke Nukem Forever. “But I cannot imagine any better video game news source team than Game Informer to reveal the moment of truth for the most inconceivable, incorrigible and inspiring turn around story in the history of the video game industry – the coming of Duke Nukem Forever on May 3, 2011.”

Has it taken too long or are you still excited about the Duke’s return? Comment below.

Trailer: Scream 4

With Wes Craven returning to the “Scream” franchise, we will either get an interesting new twist on an old theme or we will get another  ho hum sequel. I personally hope the first is true.

“Scream 4” will be out in April 2011.

Black Swan – First Thoughts

Josh and I watched this tonight as a review film for an upcoming episode of the podcast Film Actually (episode 116), so for a full review listen to the show. These are just my first thoughts and impressions of the film.

Darren Aronofsky doesn’t pull punches. “Requiem for a Dream” (2000), his film about drug addiction was one of the most gruellingly depressing films I have ever seen and although brilliant and disturbing, I will probably never watch it again. “The Wrestler” (2008) is another powerful film about getting older and realising that starting a new life is almost impossible. It was deep, sad and profound and featured an amazing, award winning, performance from Mickey Rourke. Forum Closed Until Further Notice

Just a quick note to say that we have locked down and closed the forum until further notice, we were being hammered by spam and I don’t have the time to maintain it. So until further notice, all forum type stuff like the posting of the Lists of Five, un-official Geek Actually movie fan club screening info and general discussion can be done at our Facebook Fan Page.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

The Green Hornet – First Thoughts

Josh and I will review this in detail on the Film Actually podcast (episode 116) but here are some initial thoughts. I will start by saying that I have been negative on this film since I first heard about the project’s production problems over a year ago, and now it would seem that I was kind of right.

Originally Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle) was going to direct and star as Kato to Seth Rogan’s Green Hornet. Chow decided he didn’t want to direct it and agreed to just play Kato. As the search for a director continued, Chow quit as Kato as well. Then Nicolas Cage, who was signed to play the villain walked and was eventually replaced with Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds). When Michel Gondry, an art house director probably best known for “Be Kind Rewind” and “Eternal Sunshine on a Spotless Mind” was signed I felt this film was doomed. He is a great director but completely wrong for the material, kind of like Ang Lee making “Hulk”. Later, as production finally got underway, the release date was pushed back to accommodate a post conversion to 3D. Those that have seen “Clash of the Titans”, “The Last Airbender” and “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” know that this doesn’t often end well. Continue reading
