Short Film: Lego Street Shootout

I just had to post this! I think this is just a brilliant little stop motion animated short film. It is like a bloody Michael Bay movie. Well done Keshen8, it is superb. My first thought when I saw it was when is Traveller’s Tales (the makers of all the recent Lego computer games) gonna make a Lego shooter, I would play that and I bet it would look something like this film, or it should anyway. Sit back and let the massacre begin! As always, let me know what you thought of it, comments below.

The Isaiah Mustafa Old Spice Ads – Brilliance!!!

On this weeks Geek Actually Podcast (ep 92) we discussed this brilliant ad campaign for Old Spice. We showed the videos and raved about how good the star, Isaiah Mustafa, was and we promised that we would have all the clips posted here for the audio listeners, so here they are plus a segment from Leo Laporte’s TWiT network where the campaign creators discussed how the first ad was made. This is fascinating stuff so if you have 20 minutes to spare watch that too.

And as a bonus at the bottom you will find the Neil Patrick Harris Old Spice ad that we played on the After Show. Enjoy and please let us know what you think of these wonderful ads in the comments below. Continue reading

Game Review: Crackdown 2

You’ve wanted to be a super-hero. I’ve wanted to be a super-hero. It’s probably human nature, but we’ve all thought about being Spider-Man at least once. Or Superman. Or maybe even Aquaman, if you’re into that sort of thing. He was always a bit of a wimp. But with the upcoming release of Crackdown 2, a wimp you shall not be. You play as an Agent, a mysterious super-chap working for “The Agency” with a tendency to punch first, then ask questions later, by punching.

The game is the free-roaming follow up to Ruffian Games’ original Crackdown. The developers have obviously tried to take everything people loved about the original and expand it. But regardless Crackdown 2 is a hard game to like. But also a hard game to fault, in its own way. Confusing, right? Continue reading

Game Review: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

My poor PSP …. it is truly the image of neglect. Especially now that Monster Hunter is on Wii! Although there have been titles that have pulled me back for a stint (Fat Princess, Little Big Planet, Gran Turismo) but they haven’t stood the test of time. So when I played the demo of METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER, I thought this would be another one-night-stand on my dust covered PSP. The operative word being THOUGHT….

MGS:PW is set at the end of the 70’s, although with some of the high-tech weapons flying around in the game, you wouldn’t know it. You play as Big Boss who is the DNA predessesor of the ultra famous Solid Snake. So why Konami and game maker Hideo Kojima opted to call this instalment Metal Gear Solid is beyond me. But really, all this is just nit-pickin’.

Peace Walker is a third person stealth shooter with a bit of “micro-management” between missions which are dished out episodically. The breaking up of the missions lets you re-assess what armaments you take to battle and tweek your own army to open up more weapons and gadgets. Continue reading

What’s happening in Geek Actually land?

Time for a quick update on the coming events of GeekActually.com and The Geek Actually Podcasts. If you are a regular listener to The Geek Actually Podcast you probably already know a lot of what is going to happen in a week and a half, but just in case you haven’t ventured into our podcast world, here is the news: The podcast is going to change format at episode 93 (recording 17th July 2010).

How is it going to change? I’m glad you asked. At the moment we record two shows on Saturday, ‘The Geek Actually Podcast’ and ‘The Geek Actually After Show’, this will become three individual shows; ‘Tech, Actually’, ‘Film, Actually’ and ‘Geek, Actually’. Why? ‘The Geek Actually Podcast’ has always been a hard sell because of it’s mixed nature. As a geek, I love talking about film and tech together, it feels natural but I understand that there are a lot of people out there who don’t really care about the film stuff and just want their tech and vice versa, so this way I can get it all and the audience can get what they want as well.
