Geek Actually Episode 3 – Delayed 1 Day

Hi All, just a quick note to say that we are recording episode 3 on Tuesday so it will be available on Wednesday. Jacob and I are attending a preview screening of the new film Tropic Thunder on Monday night and we really want to review it for the show. If we record on Monday as planned, the review will be out in a week and that is just too damn late. So a one day delay is called for here.

Episode 3 here or on iTunes on August 20th 2008.

Paddington Bear

A week ago my dad bought me a Paddington Bear DVD when I was sick and I haven’t stopped watching it. I am still sick and if you listened to the podcast you already know that. A few days ago I bought another Paddington DVD, it was called Paddington Bear Goes to the Movies and I loved it, it was so good, I have watched it again and again. My dad liked it too and my mum liked it as well.

so if you have little kids, try these DVDs.

Listen to Episode 2 of the podcast for more info.

Google Adsense Ads

It has come to my attention that a Scientology ad has appeared in my Adsense banners. I am trying to catch it so I can tell Google not to place Scientology banners on my site. I don’t care about dating services or Biker Babes but I will not have religion advertised on my site! If you see the Scientology ad pop up please click it, copy and paste the address it takes you to into an email to me and I will have all future Scientology advertising stopped on Geek Actually.

As for the other ads, it would be appreciated if you do click the ads once in awhile as I am trying to earn some kind of revenue for this venture, I want Geek Actually to always remain free for you the reader and listener. I may set up a donations button in the future and if you are feeling kind you might donate but it will not be compulsory. In the meantime, I have to run ads to try and make some money back.

However, I will starve before I let religion advertise on my site! If you are religious, good for you, now keep it to yourself. Religion is a personal thing and I don’t need to hear about yours, movies and tech are my religion – end of debate.

Who’s That Girl?

With the release of “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” on DVD only 5 days away, (I visited Blockbuster earlier this evening) it has made me think about this issue again. Who is the girl on the poster?

I have included a picture of the poster and a picture of Kristen Bell (that is who it is supposed to be) to compare. That girl on the poster is not Kristen Bell. Why hasn’t anything been written or said about this? I only bring it up now because when the film was at the cinema, I wasn’t running this site. I did however point this out to Mirren (she was a guest on the last podcast – you did listen to the last podcast I hope) and she was also wondering what was up with this poster.

It is one of two things:

a) Kristen was not available for the poster shoot and the producers assumed no one would notice. It would seem no did.

Or b) They have airbrushed her beyond the point of recognition. This is a possible option except she looks too chunky. Kristen Bell is a tiny, thin little thing. This girl has some meat on her. And Kristen Bell’s features are sharper than this girl.

This will be filed under the “what the…?” catagory I’m sure but watch those movie posters, they are not all they would seem.

iTunes Australia has movies!!!!

Okay, this is so fresh that even the Apple website doesn’t have this yet. Australian iTunes has Movies (for sale and rental), wow, they just snuck those in didn’t they. They were not there yesterday and now they are, this is so cool. Now I just have to talk my wife into letting me buy an Apple TV :-)

Fallout 3 to be released in Australia, but…

Just to follow up my rant from a couple of weeks ago about censorship, Fallout 3, the game that got “banned” is finally going to be released in Australia.

“Does this mean, we will finally get an R rating on games?”, I hear you ask.

No, it means that the censors have hacked up another game to fit within the MA rating. If we were (and we were in the 80s) regularly getting our movies chopped up for release we would have an riot. Film buffs would get up and scream from the rafters, “you can’t mutilate art!”

Well guess what, computer games are every bit an art form as movies. I am ashamed of living in Australia at this moment. We used to be a liberal minded, free thinking people and quite frankly we are thinking more like moral majority, religious, conservative mid-western Americans at the moment.

Wake up Australia, you stupid buggers! Get that carrot out of your arse and start speaking up for what is right, don’t let the conservatives take over the world, believe it or not you will not like that world. How do I know? Look at America at the moment! I don’t want to live there at the moment, and I don’t want Australia to become that.

I beg you Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, I know you are a very religious person, but please do the right thing and separate church and state. Be the free thinking liberal minded Prime Minister I hoped you would be, undo the damage of the Howard years. Deep down, I know you know it is the right thing to do.

Here is a starter To Do List:

  1. Get out of Iraq and apologise to the world, then condemn America for not getting out.
  2. Legalise gay marriage (or explain exactly how it damages my marriage, I’m open for debate).
  3. Pass an R rating on video games.
  4. Ban scripture classes from public schools (separation of church and state, remember).

There is so much I could put on this list, but this is a good start.

I’m exhausted now, I need a Bex and good cup of Bushalls (you young ones will not get that at all) :-)

Rant Over!
